Andover YMCA Community Center Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes Monday, December 3, 2018 In Attendance: Don Schmeichel, Allison Boes, Erick Sutherland, Ted Butler, Tony Howard, Frank Kellogg, Jim Dickinson (left at 7 pm), Julie Trude, Nick Giacomini/AHYHA Competition Director, Tracey Johannsen/AHYHA Secretary (left at 8:10 pm) Absent: Tony Peterson and Val Holthus Frank Kellogg called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm Agenda Approval Motion by Ted Butler seconded by Allison Boes to approve agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes Motion by Ted Butler seconded by Allison Boes to approve November 13, 2018 meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Discussion Items Recap November 27, 2018 Andover City Council Workshop – Mayor Trude indicated that the city council reviewed the city campus master plan as well as the memorial gardens. Recap November 29, 2018 RJM and 292 Design Group Meeting Expansion Update – Estimates for build came in higher than the desired $100 per household based on a $250,000 value home. Jim indicated they are coming in at approximately at $105. Jim recommended looking at the square footage in the big box areas. 292 has notes from Tony Peterson/AHYHA where he recommended areas to cut costs. 292 will be back next week to present revisions. Discuss Public Information Meetings – Andover Community Center Expansion – Items to include in the information meeting would be: Potential expansion floor plans, information on home value/property taxes, information on the demand from the community and Anoka County tax value. Attendees will walk around and view boards. The presentation will include what we do and who we serve. Comment cards will be available as well as a sign-up sheet for people who would like to approach the podium to ask questions. Nick Giacomini mentioned that there will be a Mite Jamboree the night of the public information meeting and refreshments will be served in the ice arena. AHYHA Update – Nick Giacomini indicated that there are 34 AHYHA teams this year. The AHYHA Assn. has donated $11,000 to the ACC for locker room clocks and divider pads as well as $2,000 for new white boards in the locker rooms. YMCA Update – The YMCA Recently held their Cookies with Santa event, which is a free community event. Lock-In and Field Trip Requests Fall/Winter Programming (September 2018– April/May 2019) - Ongoing • Indoor Walking - Monday – Friday Mornings • Pickle Ball – Sessions offered Weekdays, Weeknights and Weekends. Instructional and Skills and Drills sessions have resumed. • After School Free Student Open Gym - Monday – Friday 2:30 – 4:45 pm • After School Youth Center (YMCA) – Monday – Friday 3 – 6:00 pm • Tot-Time Open Gym Mondays & Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11:30 am o Monthly: Teddy Bear Clinics, Story Time, Crafts and Inflatables – Began October 1st • Daytime Open Skate Monday & Fridays 10:00 – 11:30 am • Adult Open Hockey – Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. 11:30 am – 1:00 pm Commission Input – Frank thanked Mayor Trude for all her hard work and dedication to the community.
