1 Village of Angel Fire 2 Lodgers Tax Committee Meeting Minutes 3 Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Village Hall 4 5 Call to Order 6 The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Gary Davis. 7 8 Pledge of Allegiance 9 The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Committee. 10 11 Roll Call 12 Present at the meeting were Chairman Gary Davis, Shauna Cooper, Wendy Hail, Mayor 13 Barbara Cottam, Councilor Rogers Lanon and Jimmy Linton. 14 15 Approval of Agenda 16 Shauna Cooper made a motion to approve the agenda of July 26, 2016. Wendy Hail seconded 17 the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 18 19 Approval of Minutes 20 Wendy Hail made a motion to approve the meeting minutes of May 31, 2016. Shauna Cooper 21 seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 22 23 Old Business 24 Chairman Davis discussed his letter to Angel Fire homeowners regarding a voluntary 25 collection of Lodgers Tax for nightly rental of their homes. Shauna Cooper thanked Chairman 26 Davis for his work in making the letter to be more explaining than demanding for people to 27 collect the tax. 28 29 New Business 30 Jimmy Linton presented the Lodgers Tax collections to date. Figures for the month of May 31 show collection figures are up 20% over the same month last year. He is hoping to end the 32 year at about 10% over last year’s collections. 33 34 In other discussions, Jimmy explained that he had obtained the boiler-plate agreement between 35 Airbnb and the Town of Taos to collect Lodgers Tax on their rentals in Taos. Jimmy has sent 36 this agreement to the Village of Angel Fire attorneys for their opinion and advice but has not 37 heard back. Mayor Cottam asked about VRBO and Chairman Davis said that Mindy Stille had 38 a good relationship with that company and was going to check what we needed to do. 39 40 Other Business 41 Jimmy Linton stated that Trini Bradley would be joining the Visitor Center in a newly created 42 full time position to man the Visitor Center. 43 44 Mayor Cottam informed the Committee that she and Jimmy would be attending the Tulsa 45 State Fair at the end of September and beginning of October. We will be working with a 46 television station in Tulsa to do a give-away to visit Angel Fire. 47 48 Requests and Responses from Audience 49 Don Borgeson asked if homeowners that collected Lodgers tax were made aware that they are 50 also required to have a business registration as an Angel Fire business.
