1 2 Lodgers Tax Committee Meeting Minutes 3 Tuesday, November 13, 2018 4 5 Call to Order 6 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gary Davis. 7 8 Pledge of Allegiance 9 The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Committee. 10 11 Roll Call 12 Present at the meeting were Chairman Gary Davis, Shauna Cooper, Mindy Stille, and Brent Dunn. 13 Absent was committee member Wayne Hajovsky. Also present was Jimmy Linton. 14 15 Approval of Agenda 16 Brent Dunn made a motion to approve the agenda of November 13, 2018. Second to the motion 17 was from Shauna Cooper. Motion passed. 18 19 Approval of Minutes 20 Shauna Cooper made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 26, 2018 meeting of the 21 Committee. Second to the motion was from Brent Dunn. Motion passed. 22 23 New Business 24 Jimmy Linton gave a report of the Lodgers Tax collections for the first three months of this fiscal year 25 (July – September). At this point we are about 2% ahead of the previous year’s collections at this 26 time last year. Jimmy also handed out a list of all of the current lodgers collecting Lodger’s tax. This 27 list has grown by 1/3 from January of this year. All of the increase has been from individual lodgers. 28 29 Chairman Davis reported that Wayne Hajovsky had resigned from the Lodger’s tax committee. It was 30 discussed among the committee to move Mindy Stille to the position of a tourism-related business, 31 since the main focus of her company had changed from nightly rental to association management. 32 This would leave a lodger’s position open for the Mayor to fill. The names of Brenda Johnson of 33 Brenda’s Property Management and Owen Curry from Resort Properties of Angel Fire could possibly 34 fill the position. Gary will take both names to Mayor Cottam for her decision. The new appointment 35 will have to go before Village Council for approval. 36 37 Jimmy Linton explained that the Village Council has directed Bret Wier to enter into an agreement 38 with STR Helper, Inc for identification of folks who are not collecting Lodger’s Tax and begin to get 39 them signed up. He also stated that Christine Breault and himself would be working on a short-term 40 night rental Village overlay for Council approval and that changes to the Lodger’s tax is to be 41 updated and approved by Council. This process will eventually increase the amount of Lodger’s Tax 42 collect for the Village. Another new change to the Village Ordinances will be a Lodger’s licensing that 43 must be acquired before a lodger can do nightly rental. Discussion followed among the committee 44 of what this might entail. 45 46  1 Next Meeting Date 2 Chairman Davis called for when the next meeting should be held.
