Hupy APPROVAL OF AGENDA Approved PUBLIC COMMENT No comments APPROVAL OF MINUTES - March 6, 2019 Approved with changes REPORT FROM CHAIR Media Training Working Group: Allison Buck and Deb Mexicotte met with city communications specialist Robert Kellar to discuss media opportunities for the commission. Various ways that the city currently communicates with the public via email, newsletters, news blasts, etc. Chair Buck will reachout to schedule meetings with commissioners in small groups to better understand AAPAC's media role in promoting and encourageing a broader scope of art within the city. City of Ann Arbor Page 1 Ann Arbor Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes May 8, 2019 Introduction of Olivia Pearce, Public Art Inventory Assistant. Olivia is senior at Eastern Michigan University pursuing a BA in History and a BS in Science and Geography. Olivia is currently developing a storymap for all city-owned public art. Presented NEW BUSINESS Creation of a Nominating Working Group: Designed to recruit and recommend new AAPAC commissioners and celebrate outgoing commissioners with an exit interview. Members - A. Buck, D. Mexicotte and J. Kotarski Creation of a City Hall Working Group - Mayor Taylor reached to request that AAPAC work with the Ann Arbor Art Center to expand and promote the council gallery as well as assist with the 2nd floor photographic wall outside Council Chambers to develop a way to more clearly define and show the diversity within our community. Members - J. Copi, D. Esau and A. Buck Approved OLD BUSINESS REPORT FROM STAFF 1) Stadium Glass Replacements – Glass panels have been replaced. 2) Canoe Fan Art Purchase – (see attached resolution) City Attorney in discussions with the artist to determine feasibility of purchasing the Canoe Fan piece as suggested by Councilmembers Lumm, Eaton and Ramlawi. 3) Jewett Memorial – Artist Tad McKillop onsite Thursday, May 9th to place the Adirondack chairs in their permanent location along Fifth Avenue. Presented WORK GROUP REPORTS City of Ann Arbor Page 2 Ann Arbor Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes May 8, 2019 Communications and Marketing Group (Promoting Public Art) - Commission seeks to identify and promote existing public art by adding an identifying label/tag or QR code as well as as a printed information brochure and website/internet reference. Recommendation that staff explore producing a proof of concept mockup for a label, printed card with QR code as well as an internet webpage Recommendation that staff evaluate and share the advantages/disadvantages of producing the final elements either in-house or outsourced to local fabricator Development Work Group - Ways developers can access Michigan creative community through a no-cost registry of artists and consultants who have a public art practice. Recommendation that staff explore the possibility of developing a registry Recommendation that a Public Art Commissioner be assigned as a non-voting member to Design Review Board as an art liaison to discuss potential inclusion of art for upcoming projects.
