ROLL CALL All members participated remotely from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Washtenaw County. City staff members Jacqueline Beaudry, Rachel Weinberg, Jennifer Alexa and Mike Pettigrew were also in attendance. Present: 4- Lisa Disch, Kathy Griswold, Jeff Hayner and Linh Song APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved with unanimous consent. PUBLIC COMMENT Michelle Hughes, resident, spoke about Councilmember Hayner's comments in the local press. She demanded an apology to the LGBTQ community. Zachary Storey, resident, called on Councilmember Hayner to resign. A local business owner expressed concern with Councilmember Hayner's recent comments regarding the LGBTQ community. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 21-0714 Council Liquor License Review Committee Meeting Minutes of March 12, 2021 A motion was made by Councilmember Disch, seconded by Councilmember Song, that the Council Liquor License Review Committee Minutes of March 12, 2021 be approved by the Commission and forwarded to the City Council by 5/3/2021. On a voice vote, the Chair declared the motion carried. City of Ann Arbor Page 1 Council Liquor License Review Meeting Minutes - Final April 12, 2021 Committee NEW BUSINESS 21-0715 Resolution to Recommend Approval of Issuance of a Downtown Development District Liquor License to Kouzina Ann Arbor, LLC A motion was made by Councilmember Griswold, seconded by Councilmember Disch, that the Resolution be recommended for adoption to the City Council on 4/19/2021. On a voice vote, the Chair declared the motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Annual Renewal of Liquor Licenses Deputy city clerk Jennifer Alexa reported that 103 businesses have paid their annual liquor license renewal fees to date. City Treasurer Mike Pettigrew stated several businesses still owe the City personal property taxes, including Banfield's Bar and Grill ($722.19), Cafe Zola ($2725.63), Nagomi Sushi ($2101.51), Shalimar ($1325.49), Silvio's Pizza ($407.74) and Zola Bistro ($1329.51). Mr. Pettigrew stated he has a payment arrangement with Silvio's Pizza and they have the option to pursue civil action with the other businesses, if necessary. Mr. Pettigrew stated no further action from the committee is requested at this time. Councilmember Griswold moved, supported by Councilmember Song, that the Committee authorize the City Clerk's Office to continue to mail annual renewal letters and certificates to businesses who are paid in full and approved for the year. On a voice vote, the motion carried. INFORMATION/UPCOMING BUSINESS Committee members discussed public commentary and the requirements under the Open Meetings Act. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Councilmember Disch, seconded by Councilmember Griswold, that the meeting adjourn.
