Minutes of the Arlington Youth Council Meeting January 11, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. Arlington Boys and Girls Club Youth Councilmembers Present: Sera Sabol, Kimberly Leach, Reese Baggen, Kathleen Azpiri, Brooklyn Helle, Elinor Richardson, Kristian Michale Sherburne Youth Council Members Absent: None Staff Present: Mandy Kruger, Sarah Lopez, Don Vanney Also Known to be Present: none 1. Meeting called to order at 5:31 p.m. by Kathleen Azpiri 2. Minutes of the December meeting: Brooklyn made a motion to approve the minutes, Kimberly seconded and all were in favor. 3. Introductions: The Youth Council introduced themselves to Mayor Don Vanney. 4. Focus Project: Arlington Teen Night April 26: Chair Kathleen led the group through each component of the event. Brooklyn will work on the ping pong with brackets and additional tables perhaps in the front room. Kristian will figure out the Mario Cart tournament. Kimberly showed examples of posters with themes. The group liked the neon retro party theme. We can use Eventbrite for signups. Can have a photo booth with neon items. Kathleen is approximating 50 attendees. Can we have retro music? Brooklyn is checking on discounted pizzas. Also would like to have clear drinks, chips, popcorn, fruit and veggies. Would like prizes for the tournament and raffle prizes for incentive to attend. Elinor is working on donations for prizes. Sarah stated that there is budget for the event. Resse has been working on the trivia with Kaitlyn Goubeau and shared Kaitlyn’s trivia questions. They have 8 buzzers. Can have 4 booths with social workers for the mental health education. Discussed start time of 6:30 with 1.5 hour tournaments. Have the Youth Council be the greeters and get the kids involved in the games. Ask teachers if they will give extra credit for attending. 5. Resource brochure- Sera showed the draft brochure she has been working on. She needs information on the school counselors to include. Other suggestions were made. We could have Stilly Valley Health review the brochure. 6. Youth Dynamics/Middle School anti-vape event: Invite Jessica Ronhaar to next meeting. Mandy suggested that the event be interactive. Discussed possibilities and recommended researched how to present the education in an outdoor lively environment. Page 1 of 2  7.
