August 30, 2016 STATE OF ALABAMA, LIMESTONE COUNTY, CITY OF ATHENS. The City Council of the City of Athens, Alabama met in special session at the Athens Municipal Building, 200 Hobbs Street West in the said City on August 30, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Councilman Wayne Harper, President of the Council. Upon roll call the following were found to be present: Councilmember Harold Wales, Frank Travis and Wayne Harper. Councilman Chris Seibert and Joseph Cannon were absent. The Chairperson stated that a quorum was present and that the meeting was open for transaction of business. Councilman Travis introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION FOR CANVASSING ELECTION RESULTS WHEREAS, the general election for the City of Athens, Alabama was duly and legally held on August 23, 2016 as provided by law, and WHEREAS, the municipal governing body of the City of Athens, Alabama met on this 30th day of August, 2016, a quorum thereof being present, at 12 o'clock p.m., and has canvassed the returns, and has ascertained and determined the number of votes received by each candidate, and WHEREAS, the said municipal governing body has ascertained and determined the result of said election as follows: NAME OF CANDIDATE District # & Absentee Prov. That Harold G. Wales received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember Place No. 2 and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016. 2. That Wayne Harper received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember Place No. 5 and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016.
