Athens in Motion Commission MINUTES – JULY, 23, 2024 Location: ACC Gov Planning Department, 120 W. The minutes were approved unanimously Minutes Chair’s Items (5:22) Lauren Blais, Chair • Farewell to Craig Topple, one of the original members of this commission Major Items (7:17) West Broad Street/Atlanta Highway GDOT/ACCGov Safety Improvements Stephen Bailey, Director, Transportation and Public Works • Update – - Atlanta Highway/West Broad - TSPLOST 2023 - Project 4 o A number of signal and ADA improvements coming o Proposed funding match for bike/ped & lighting o Work session with M&C in September Lexington Road TSPLOST sidewalk gap project Daniel Sizemore, Bike, Pedestrian and Safety Coordinator • Update • Consider providing additional funds to make sidewalk gap project a multi-use path to coincide with future plans for North side of corridor o Project 2 needs additional $250,000 to complete project o See: Lexington Road Sidewalk Gap - TSPLOST 2023 - Project 3 o See: AiMC’s submitted project: Lexington Road Corridor - TSPLOST 2023 - Project 2 o See also: Lexington Road Corridor - TSPLOST 2018 - Project 14 Vincent Drive • Overview – coming up for a vote next month • See: Vincent Drive Sidewalk - SPLOST 2020 - Project 31 • See also connecting project, Jefferson River Road • AiMC will review further and discuss at next month September with M&C Plan Revision Status Update • Now hoping for charette with AiMC late fall • Working with consultants on revisions • NOPA=Notice Of Proposed Action • AiMC will wait for Mayor & Commission to weigh in 2 TSPLSOST 2026 Daniel Sizemore, Bike, Pedestrian and Safety Coordinator Stephen Bailey, Director, Transportation and Public Works Lauren Blais, Chair AiMC • Work session in September with M&C – FYI • Finance update o Big Bucket ■ TSPLOST 2023 Project #25 ■ Lauren entertained a motion to recommend utilizing up to $250,000 of TPSLOST 2023 project #25 funds from the Athens in Motion Big Bucket to optimize Lexington Road sidewalk gap TSPLOST 2023 Project #3, including Multi-Use Path. Art moved, Allen seconded. The motion was unanimously approved • AiMC will create a subcommittee to review other TSPLOST projects and how AiM will contribute and assist in the future • Notes: o Current in-progress projects o Tier One bike and ped projects. Staff Updates (1:39:50) Park Planning Todd Miller, Park Planning Coordinator • Firefly Traill Expansion Phase III – construction bid stage – broken into 3 segments are out to bid. Goal is to issue Notice to Proceed with construction in October. SPLOST working on acquiring remaining easements in Segment 3 • Greenway Trail Expansion – Oak/Oconee St Bridge replacement/Greenway underpass – GDOT bridge is under construction, survey and utility coordination is underway. Expected completion is 2028. Trail under bridge will go out to bid and be constructed once bridge is complete. • Sandy Creek Nature Center improvements – Greenway trail repaving.
