Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the July 19th meeting will be remote. The regular meeting for the Athens Justice and Memory Project will be available to watch live on YouTube at the link available on the ACCGov calendar. AGENDA Athens Justice and Memory Project Team Meeting Monday, July 19, 2021 5 pm – 6 pm Virtual WebEx Meeting A. Moment of silence for Linnentown decedents o The Committee will take a moment of silence to acknowledge and show respect to those who are no longer with us. B. Dr. Jenn Rice update on Walk of Recognition o Walk of Recognition in the implementation stages o Inclusion Fellow through Inclusion Office to work on the project o Fellowship posting closed on July 14, 2021 o Meeting this week with TPW and ACCGov to get clearer sense of right of way, especially on Finley o Location set for South of Baxter, near corners of Finley and Cloverhurst i. Social Practice Class in planning stages with Dr. Jennifer Rice and Dr. Lynn Bustle at UGA o Collecting mosaic items from general public, such as: tile, mirrors, etc. o Will be reaching out to community to collect donated materials ii. Email was set up to host communications specifically to this project o Linnentownmosaic@gmail.com iii. ACCGov RFP process is next for development o Seeking separate consulting firm to do the historical signage o Group will reconvene in August o Hattie Thomas Whitehead ask Dr. Rice when mixing will be done for installation o Approximately a year for installation, next summer (2022) o Charlene asks if UGA needs to give approval and Dr. Jenn Rice says no, have only received support from ACCGov and using the right of way of ACC o Hattie Thomas Whitehead thanks the group for their work D. Hattie Thomas Whitehead update on Black History Center o Hattie Thomas Whitehead has asked for the 1st floor of the Costa Building o Hattie Thomas Whitehead assembling a team for the Black History Center i. Community Outreach Coordinator- Charlene Marsh ii. Strategist- Tommy Valentine iii. Public Historian- TBA iv. Fundraiser- still needed v. Chairperson- Hattie Thomas Whitehead will serve as Chairperson until project is moving, and then will head off once someone else is on board o People have volunteered to help, but they need leaders of the team for sub-groups o 1st meeting will be held in August E. Hattie Thomas Whitehead asks on Home Ownership proposal o Descriptions have not been approved o Down payments were prevented due to the GA Gratuities Clause o Hattie Thomas Whitehead asks can this team resubmit if money is directed to this proposal? o Mayor Girtz gives added information 1. Evanston, IL model: a cannabis tax was being used 2. He has asked Attorney’s Office for ARP Funds to be allocated to this 3. Dr. Jenn Rice adds that stable home ownership is a priority of this team and if this committee can help move this research forward to help provide health and safety for families ii. Mayor Girtz adds that 2nd Tuesday in August is the next conversation on ARP Funds with Commission F. Hattie Thomas Whitehead asks for press release/publicity on this team to keep momentum moving on what they are doing o Dr. Jenn Rice asks for Athens Justice and Memory Project news to be shared more widely on ACCGov website, with subscriptions o Selah Gardiner asks for clarification on whether she’s referring to an ACCGov/Inclusion Office newsletter o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says she wants to reach others that are not connected to the ACCGov website o Commissioner Parker says that it is possible for the local paper to do a story and use that space to connect people to the website and a newsletter o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says there’s nowhere to direct people to information about the Athens Justice and Memory Team and projects o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says she wants more info coming from the AJMP team and wants to do whatever they need to do to get the info out o Commissioner Parker says now would be a good time to give a broad update to the community of what has been done o Charlene Marsh to put together a summary/list of what has been done G. Linnentown Quilt Project o Next Workshop on Saturday, July 24 @10am at Lamar Dodd o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says she attended quilt workshop on campus and it was educational and fun o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says she had a photograph of the AJMP team transferred onto a quilt square and gave it to the Selah Gardiner in the Inclusion Office o The photo is time-stamped with everyone is masks and she wanted one of the quilt squares to reflect the AJMP team o Selah Gardiner shows the quilt square to the team o Hattie Thomas Whitehead asks if an August meeting is needed o Dr. Jenn Rice says she would like to provide an update during August on the RFP process o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says the meeting can just be a call in rather than Webex July WebEx meeting to inform public about Justice & Memory Committee and Walk of Recognition Project Progress Meeting adjourn at 5:38pm I N CL US I O N O F F I C E T H E U NI F I E D G O V E R NM E N T O F A T H E NS -C L A R K E C O UN T Y , G E O R G I A P.
