Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the September 20th meeting will be remote. Moment of silence for Linnentown decedents o The Committee will take a moment of silence to acknowledge and show respect to those who are no longer with us. B. Charlene Marsh read minutes from July 19, 2021 meeting. Asks for motion to approve o Hattie Thomas Whitehead moves to approve minutes. o Linda Thomas seconds D. Hattie Thomas Whitehead asks to move the meeting from Monday evenings to either Wednesdays or Thursdays at 5pm, as Dr. Jenn Rice is unable to attend on Mondays due to a change in her schedule. o Mayor Girtz agrees to move the day with no preference o Linda Thomas agrees to move the day with no preference  o Hattie Thomas Whitehead says she has spoken with Commissioner Parker who agrees to move the day with no preference o Commissioner Hamby agrees to move the day with no preference o Bobby Crook agrees to move the day with a preference on Wednesday o Meeting moved to Wednesdays at 5pm E. Hattie Thomas Whitehead gives update on Walk of Recognition via Dr. Jenn Rice’s notes o A project coordinator in place soon, this person will be identified and supervised through the County’s Inclusion Fellowship program. Looking to get this person started and helping with the proposal of the RFP for the graphic designer firm for the three historical signs as a part of the Walk of Recognition o UGA Geography and Art Education graduate students have begun working on the project and are in the process of collecting info, doing research, understanding of the process around community education, and design concept for the mosaic o Hattie Thomas Whitehead states she took on a tour of Linnentown around the site and it was very helpful and it happened last week o Goal of the UGA Geography and Art Education graduate students is to produce a comprehensive design plan for the mosaic, it will be based on extensive community input through workshops that will take place in October and November o We expect to have this for the Athens Justice and Memory Project review in December o Members of public who want be involved in the mosaic project can email o Charlene Marsh gives the linnentownmosaic@gmail.com o Some communication will be going out to groups and schools o Those are all the updates from Dr. Jenn Rice notes on the Walk of Recognition F. Hattie Thomas Whitehead gives an update on Black History Center o Hattie Thomas Whitehead asks Charlene Marsh to give an update as the Community Outreach Leader, as they had their first meeting o Charlene Marsh gives an update 1. Last Thursday evening the Community Outreach subgroup met just for just an introductory organizing meeting to get to learn more about the Black History Center that we are planning for and as well as the connection for the plan of this center to this project team, a few people were able to share where they’re coming from, interests and what skills, and how they can contribute and the networks they’re able to dig in to get the word out about the center. o Hattie Thomas Whitehead states they will be giving more information in the future, but that was just the first meeting o Asks for questions o If anyone wants to volunteer to be a part of Community Outreach, email Charlene Marsh, and invite others o Have a Public Historian on this next subgroup, no leader, just members- has sent information out, but has not gotten a leader o Have a Fundraising subgroup, no leader, just members o Strategist is Tommy Valentine  o Chairperson is Hattie Thomas Whitehead until everything is up and running o Asks for questions and there are none G. Hattie Thomas Whitehead updates on Linnentown Quilt o Try to have in place later this year, going to be a beautiful quilt o The Athens Justice Memory Project will have a square in the quilt o The quilt will be displayed on the UGA campus and around the community o Asks Mayor if he as H. Charlene Marsh gives updates on o Putting together an announcement about what the AJMP team has been up to o Still working on that o Charlene Marsh asks “Does this need to be voted on?” o Hattie Thomas Whitehead states what she has been told from the community is that she thinks it does need to be put out, not necessarily on the ACCGov website, on Facebook, Twitter, put it out on place they can see it and can be shared here and there- places like that.
