● What Operational/Organizational Issues or Needs are there:
Discussion: End of Year meeting and planning
- Hold Elections for the CTC officers for 2021 (Need to select a president elect)
- Meeting to facilitate transfer of Chair to Joe Perloff
- Planning for beginning of 2021
- Member nominations
- Annual Report (CTC Accomplishments of 2020 – Shawn)
- MLK Day and Greenlife Expo
- Arbor Day
- X-mas party?
◆ CTC Steering Committee Meeting (10/19/2020 , 12:10 – 12:40 PM):
Attendance: Shawn, Pam, Mary Attaway, Joe Perloff, Rodney, Phil, Marc
Recently Passes Motion(s): the CTC successfully voted to become partners in the ACC iTree Study
Next CTC Meeting Agenda (Topic Outline):
● Educational short – Rodney (single open grown tree to iTree)
● Budget:
- Pay Pal account is now working
- Both individual project budget goals and yearly budget.
- Establish a wish list for the committees
- Request a CTC maintenance budget from the mayor and commission
● Continue to explore planting location opportunities: CCSD Schools
- Shawn will look into this.
- Promotions (Donors to plant trees on school properties)
- Education Committee?
- Have an understanding about funding (be able to communicate this)
- Reach out to superintendent, principals, PTOs, etc.
● Formal request for current members to re-new membership (Joe Perloff, Jessie, Tori Goff)

● Discussion:
- Need to renew a couple of members in: Joe, Jessie, Tori.
- Need to find nominees: two new members by December at the latest. (Shawn has a
candidate in mind)
- Advertise: Need to assign advertising jobs to work group members.
- Revision: Need to acquire input on and revise the interview questions among work
group members (Rodney to send out old questions).
● Homework: Assign to members: Advertise for openings. WUGA, CTC website, Flagpole,
ACC Public Information outlets, Radio, other?
● Homework: Assign to members: Verbiage for advertising
● Homework: *Comments suggestions on the interview questionnaire and rating
system (Bring to meeting)
● Update the press release to be given to prospective members with new website

● Talk with the Landscape Management Division to see how many trees may be planted on the
Firefly Trail
Planting Spaces (Firefly Trail): Field trip with Phil & Todd
- Phase 1 (Along Racetrack, and (currently able to plant)
Who is responsible for the area with the Kudzu? (answer: Leisure Services)
● Establish additional planting sights

MASTER CANOPY PLAN
1) I-Tree Echo Study- grant update
• Begin process of recruiting CTC and qualified helpers to collect data in year two of I-Tree Echo Study
• Begin to identify and form criteria for plots to gather data outside of Grant parameters • Update on outreach to
other Non-profits and ACC Agencies on existing Community outreach data that could relate to CTC and upcoming
Canopy Master plan
TREE BANK
• Update on Commission outreach and general feeling on Tree Bank concept Lea & Mary
• Mary update on reaching out to Planning, Sustainability Office and Central Services • Joseph update on Tree Banks
in other communities relevance to Athens
• Discuss scope and language to start a document to give beginning framework for next step working with planning and
central services
4). Create an Annual Request for funds from the Mayor and Commission.
• Begins to address equity issues we can’t address with Tree Bank or current structure of CTC funding.
• Request are accepted in February initial request $10,000
• Requesting it to use for remediation dangerous trees possibly on both public and private properties as we are allowed
and for emergency clear, replant and maintain. These are both things that aren’t addressed directly by any other ACC
department and that we are well suited to help with.
3) Update:
• CTC creating an official Archivist relationship with Library Heritage room Librarian, Ashley Small
