a. Grants Group is working on a few potential opportunities
b. The Council will need to identify planting sites/allocations for this grant money in the
very near future.

receive tree planting improvements as beneficiaries of upcoming grant funding.

◆ CTC Larry Morris Memorial Planting Workgroup check in (12:50 – 1:00PM)

Attendance:
1. A motion was passed to create a workgroup to plant a memorial tree for Larry Morris.
a. It was suggested that we plant a tree along the Kingswood Nature Trail and the
work group has received permission from the property owner - Loren Hunt.
b. There are a number of CTC members who are interested in helping with this
initiative.
c. A plan is in motion to set up a meeting to discuss details.

◆ Promotions Committee Meeting Minutes (02/15/2021, 1:00 – 2:00 PM):
Members: Mary Attaway (chair), Jessie, Joe, Phil Hale, Tori
Attendance:
Jessie will embed links to county videos, add bios to the members page
- Tori will assemble the answers to the bios we receive.
- We discussed the prices for tshirts. In order to place an order, members need to
preorder and prepay, because $200 is only enough for less than 10 shirts. Is it worth it? Vote?
Mary and Jessie will meet to work on website in coming weeks.
Pam is investigating the ability to /accept credit card payments online. /

◆ Policy Committee Meeting Minutes (02/15/2021, 1:00 – 2:00 PM):

Re-worked Advocacy letter for downtown tree continual funding.
Mary has not moved forward with this revision. The beginning of the SPLOST Clayton St. project
ahs changed the dynamics a little and she needs to talk with Andrew Saunders to see about the
scope of the ask and the timing of the letter.
Advocacy “list” for planning Discussed need to reach out to Aron and brainstorm ask help on
language and policy advisory submittal. Would like to have list to entire CTC for June meeting to
review.
a) language for planning on tree waiver Mary working on
b) language for planning as related to parking minimums and planting island increase being tied
together
c) language for parking lot tree planting recommendations Mary working on
d) ADDA parking services contract was negotiated by Mayor Denson to put in 5% for building
facade negotiate fro 5% for park revenue, used for downtown trees? Or ROW soil
enhancement? Best place for funds to go?
e) discuss Sustainability goals of ACC 100% Resolution. Relationship of increased solar to tree
requirement. Public and private Began discussion on impact of property line tree in relation to
solar. “Sky Rights” Mary explained her idea for reworking parking lot trees to allow more dirt for
trees and free up space that could be used for EV charging and solar for commercial properties.
f) discuss tree bonus for keeping champion tree perhaps advising to include trees that are at
75% of champion to encourage keeping larger caliper trees. Agreed this would be good
additional metric

1. Spring Project - Edith conveyed to Stacee Smith, KACCB, the CTC’s willingness to assist with any Earth
Day Projects
2. Fall Event- “Tree ID on the Greenway” trail section near Sandy Creek Nature Center. Online
preregistration for possible 70-100 participants. Oct. 30th @ 10 AM with 1 to several guides dependent
upon numbers. Nominal registration donation to be charged to CTC PayPal account. NO rain date.
Winterville Tree Council will partner with CTC on this. Other organizational partnerships to be
considered. Will need 7-10 volunteers dependent upon registration numbers. Stacee emailed Randy
Smith, Facility Director of Sandy Creek Nature Center, with basic info on the event, to inquire about
feasibility
3. Members to continue to identify resource links; Edith sent compiled list of virtual Resources to Stacy
Smith, KACCB, to share with Green School Coordinators

1. A motion was made and passed to allocate funding for t-shirts.
2. I’d like to put up a social media post in memory of Larry Morris. I never served with him on the
council and did not know him very well. NUF put up a nice post about him- that was so sweet.
a. I wondered if you all wanted to collaborate on what it should say, and if you know of any
pictures of him from a CTC meeting or event.
b. I know you plan to discuss memorializing him at the next meeting. If you could also think of
this in terms of a social media announcement and website addition, that would be wonderful.
