Special Called Session

The Mayor and Commission of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia met
this date in a special called session. Present: Mayor Girtz; Commissioners Davenport, Parker, Link,
Wright, Denson, Houle, Edwards, Myers, and Thornton. Absent: Commissioner Hamby. Commissioner
Link came in at 4:56 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting was to enter into executive session for an attorney/client conference
to discuss documents that are not releasable under the Georgia Open Records Act pursuant to O.G.G.A.
Sec. 50-14-3(b)(4) and to consider the approval of a response to open meetings complaint received from
Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
A motion was made by Commissioner Thornton, seconded by Commissioner Myers, to enter into
executive session for an attorney/client conference to discuss documents that are not releasable under
the Georgia Open Records Act pursuant to O.G.G.A. Sec. 50-14-3(b)(4) and to consider the approval of a
response to open meetings complaint received from Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
The meeting reconvened in open session at 5:16 p.m.
A motion was made by Commissioner Myers, seconded by Commissioner Thornton, to adopt the
following resolution. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY, GEORGIA TO APPROVE A
RESPONSE TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, on May 11, 2022, the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia,
received a letter from the Attorney General’s Office related to an Open Meetings Act complaint regarding
Athens Clarke County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Commission does hereby approve and direct
the County Attorney to file a response to the Attorney General’s Open Meetings Act Complaint in
substantially the same form as Exhibit “A” attached hereto.
A motion was made by Commissioner Link, seconded by Commissioner Parker, to adjourn. The
motion passed by unanimous vote
The meeting adjourned at 5:23 p.m.
