Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia Mayor and Commission Tuesday, May 11, 2023 5:34 p.m. 120 West Doherty Street The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia met this date in special called session. Roll call was conducted. Present: Mayor Girtz; Commissioners Davenport, Taylor, Wright, Fisher, Houle, Culpepper, Myers, and Thornton. Commissioner Link was absent. The purpose of the meeting was to conduct public hearing #1 on the proposed FY24 budget as required by the Taxpayer Bill of Rights passed by the Georgia General Assembly in 1999; and consider any other item in proper order. Commissioner Link entered the meeting at 5:36 p.m. Public Hearing #1 as required by the Taxpayer Bill of Rights The following public input was received. 1. Hattie Whitehead – supported $1.25M for the Black History Center as recommended by the Athens Justice and Memory Project 2. Frank Platt – supported funding for the Black History Center 3. Jeb Bradberry- supported rollback of the millage rate 4. Brittany Lopez, Latinx for Democracy – supported language access funds for Elections 5. Kelly Medina – supported funding for Spanish language access materials for Elections 6. Jaclyn Medina – supported funding for Spanish language access materials for Elections 7. Valerie Fallon, Library Director – supported funding for Library 8. Niké Shimobi-Obijuru – supported funding for Library 9. Marlo Castro Lopez – support funding for accessibility 10. Walter Allen, Jr. – supported Willie Green’s proposal for youth center 11. Ines Salas - supported funding for Spanish language access in Elections 12. Esther Cadillo – supported funding for Spanish language access in Elections 13. Daniel Torres – supported language access funds for Elections Commissioner Wright left at 6:03 p.m. The Special Called Session ended at 6:05 p.m. ____________________________________ Acting Clerk of Commission
