Mayor Preciado called the meeting to order at 4:08 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Councilman Hernandez, Councilman Ramirez, Mayor Preciado, and Councilmember Carrizales joined the meeting at
4:30 p.m.
ABSENT: None.
STAFF PRESENT: Whitten, Ortiz, Bermudez.
LEGAL COUNSEL: none.
CITY CLERK: Government Code Section 54952.3: The members of the City Council and Successor Agency are entitled to receive
a total of $300.00 per month because of being elected to the City Council. They receive no other compensation for sitting as a
member of the Successor Agency.
The City Council went into Closed Session at 4:10 p.m.
CLOSED SESSION: (City/Successor Agency):
A. PERSONNEL (Government Code § 54957(b)).
It is the intention of this governing body to meet in closed session to:
Personnel: City Manager Position.
Personnel: Attorney Position.
Mayor Preciado opened the meeting at 5:00 pm. Mayor announced that the Council has hired Moses Diaz, Central Valley Legal
Services to represent the City of Avenal. The Council congratulated and welcomed Moses. Moses Diaz mentioned that he is honored
and happy to serve the City of Avenal.
Melissa Whitten, City Manager, mentioned to Mayor Preciado that the Council needs to go back into Closed Session for the City
Manager Position. The Council went back into Closed Session at 5:00 p.m.
Mayor Preciado re-opened the meeting at 8:12 p.m. action reported as follows:
RESOLUTION 2020-40: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AVENAL ENTERING INTO AN
AGREEMENT WITH CENTRAL VALLEY LEGAL SERVICES TO PROVIDE AND PERFORM CITY ATTORNEY/LEGAL
COUNSEL SERVICES TO/FOR THE CITY OF AVENAL.; AND, FURTHER, AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO SIGN AND
EXECUTE SAID AGREEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY. A motion was made by Mayor Preciado, seconded by
Councilman Hernandez and carried.

AYES: Preciado, Hernandez, Ramirez, Carrizales.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTAIN: None.
PUBLIC COMMENT/ANNOUNCEMENTS & UNSCHEDULED APPEARANCES: no public comments.
CORRESPONDENCE/ANNOUNCEMENTS/CLOSING COMMENTS:
Moses Diaz, City Attorney, mentioned that he is honored for the opportunity and happy to serve Avenal.
Councilman Hernandez welcomed Moses Diaz to the City of Avenal.
Councilman Ramirez stated the following: 1) welcomed Moses Diaz to the City Council and City.
Mayor Preciado stated that no decision has been made for the City Manager. The City Council will meet September 30, 2020 to decide
at that time. The City Council is working hard to meet the needs of the community and thanked everyone for attending.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business the City Council meeting was adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
