MINUTES OF REGULAR YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING

The Bastrop Youth Advisory Council met in a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at
6: 00 p. m. at the Bastrop City Hall Council Chambers, located at 1311 Chestnut Street, Bastrop,
Texas. Members present were Council Members Dodge, Ramirez, Tran, Morriss, and Anguiano.
Sponsor, Dr. Kristi Lee, of Bastrop ISD was present as well as Staff Liaison, Trey Job, and
Executive Assistant, Cheryl Renfro, on behalf of the City of Bastrop.
CALL TO ORDER
Council Member Tran called the meeting to order at 6: 09 pm with no quorum being present.
There was discussion about what constitutes a quorum and attendance requirements
according to the Bylaws.

Krystal Grimes, Resilience Director at Bastrop County Cares, announced that the center
has received grant funds and would like to build a youth collaboration from area youth' s
perspective. This is a county -wide initiative to identify county needs, such as food
insecurity. They will begin a membership drive in January 2019. Interested parties my
contact Krystal Grimes, at Bastrop County Cares, for more information.
4A. PRESENTATION ON THE FAMILY CRISIS CENTER " SUMMER SUMMIT
Ms. Danyale Cook, Primary Prevention Educator, of the Family Crisis Center provided
a handout with information about their Safe Teens Programs. She spoke about
upcoming training opportunities that would allow students to serve on the Family Crisis'
Center Youth Advisory Board in area schools. Each training session is approximately
1 hour, and all courses should be completed in May. Ms. Cook outlined the curriculum
and opportunities participants would have to earn community volunteer hours through
the program.
5A. STAFF LIAISON REPORT
The Director of Public Works & Leisure Services, Trey Job, gave a presentation about
the Youth Advisory Council' s mission and future goals. The presentation was followed
by discussion about setting a priority focus for the Council.
A suggestion was made about utilizing the Convention Center as a dual- purpose
facility such as a Convention Center/ Recreation Center with discussion following about
why or why not such an arrangement would work.
There were no reports.

6A. DISCUSS COUNCIL' S IDENTIFIED FOCUS AREAS AND LIST OF PRIORITIES AS
IT RELATES TO THE VARIOUS CITY BOARDS, THEIR PURPOSE AND YAC
DEISGNEES.
The Counci I discussed how to build a process to research and gather feedback
from peers on topics. A Remind Poll was mentioned and required
information suc h as age, address, and so on were disc ussed with an emphasis
that the same questions should be as ked at each sc hool. The BISD sponsor
recommended that the group ask their campus liaison' s for help communicating
with their peer Council Member Tran will research this item more and report at
the next meeting.
