Attendees: Fred Heaton (Calhoun Co. Water Resources), Jody Smith (DENSO Corp.), Stephen
Lewis (Battle Creek Public Schools), Matthew Hanauer (EGLE), Frank Schumaker (Lakeview
Schools), Wendy Meyer (Lakeview Schools), Chris Kosmowski (MDARD), Cheryl Vosburg

Introductions
Approval of Agenda (Tribbett motioned, Heaton seconded, all approved)
Approval of June 24, 2020 minutes (Heaton motioned, Tribbett seconded, all approved)
BCACWP Agreement Updates & Nested Jurisdiction Agreement Updates
o Nothing new to report. Tabled until December meeting
Photo Contest
o We had thirty three entries (3 youth entries). We need the group’s votes back to
Bessie by Sept. 21 to allow time for the checks to be issued to the winners before
the Wellhead Protection grant period on September 30, 2020.
Krazy for the Kazoo, October 3, 2020
o We are looking for volunteers – we currently have 25. Fundraising is going well
with $2,500 currently collected, including the BC Community Foundation funds
from 2019. BCACWP members are encouraged to promote the event and
participate, if possible.
Public Education & Upcoming Events for 2020
o Hoch-Melluish reported on the 2020 outreach events to date.
BC Farmer’s Market
Konnect with the Kazoo (Vosburg): Had 54 registrants, 19 sponsors
Recycling collection events: 3 events in July/August
Urban Tree Grant w/Kalamazoo River Watershed Council and City of
Kalamazoo (awards announced October 2020)
Urban Forestry grant (due Sept. 30, 2020)

Billboard on Beckley Road
Radio ads
Lakeview Sq. Mall display
Youtube ads
Wellhead Protection Grants
Hoch-Melluish received an email earlier this day that EGLE will not be awarding any WHP
grants for the next year. This may impact outreach. There was discussion on alternate
sources of funding for the Calhoun County calendar. Hoch-Melluish will contact Calhoun
County regarding use of the solid waste funds to help with calendar.
Budget:
o No changes to report since June 24, 2020
Comments:
o J. Coury thanked C. Kosmowski, C. Vosburg and the late T. Welsh for their efforts
getting the Krazy for the Kazoo going and successful. He suggested contacting the
Shopper to see if we could get the front page to promote the event.
o J. Coury asked if Calhoun County still has an agreement with Kalamazoo County
for use of their hazardous waste disposal facility. C. Kosmowski said she thought
that expired several years ago. Hoch-Melluish will check with S. Kelly at Calhoun
County.
