DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 Call to Order: 1:06pm Roll Call for Board Members: Eric Blair, John Sims, LE Johnson, Peter Pontoni Staff Members Present: Jason Francisco, Code Compliance Manager; Don Wilkinson, Building Official; Angie Hubbard, Secretary Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: 165 Capital Ave SW Approval of Minutes: Mr. Sims made a motion to approve the January 15,2020 minutes, seconded by Mr. Johnson. Approved. Dangerous Buildings Show Cause Hearings: a. 562 VanBuren St (House) Issue #EN18-04439 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owned by Calhoun County. Mr. Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was heavily damaged by fire. A safety inspection found multiple violations. In it’s current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building and it was affirmed by the Dangerous Building Official. Mr. Wilkinson would like the property affirmed as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Sims motioned to affirm as written, seconded by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed. b. 124 Bennett (House) Issue #EN17-00445 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owned by Calhoun County. Mr. Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was heavily damaged by fire. A safety inspection found multiple violations. In it’s current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Housing Board of Appeals January 15, 2020 Page 2 of 3 Building, and it was Affirmed by the Dangerous Building Official. Mr. Sims motioned to affirm as written, seconded by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed c. 194 Wood St (House) Issue #EN17-04871 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner not present. Mr. Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property has been purchased by Habitat for Humanity and that a building permit has been issued. No inspection has been completed. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building, and it was Affirmed by the Dangerous Building Official. Mr. Sims asked if there has been any communication with the owner to see the intent of the property. Mr. Wilkinson stated that Habitat has plans to work on it eventually. They also purchased the house next door. Mr. Sims motioned to affirm as written, seconded by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed d. 642 Hamblin (House) Issue #DN19-10089 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Homeowner not present. Mr. Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the property was heavily damaged by fire, having multiple violations. Owner has pulled permits and is working on repairs to bring back into compliance. In it’s current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a Dangerous Building, and it was Affirmed as a Dangerous Building by the Dangerous Building Official. Mr. Wilkinson stated that the property currently has an expired building permit and an electrical permit that is active until January. He recommends affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Sims motioned to affirm as written, seconded by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed. Mr. Johnson seconded. All affirmed Mr. Blair to remain Chairman. Mr. Blair nominated Mr. Sims as Vice Chairman. Mr. Pontoni seconded. All affirmed Mr. Sims to remain Vice Chairman. Jason Francisco voiced his appreciation to the Board for being flexible with video meetings and for being so patient during this time.
