City Manager Performance Evaluation Committee Battle Creek City Hall Room 302B, Third Floor 10 N. Division St. Battle Creek, MI 49014 Tuesday, May 1, 2012 12:00 p.m. Committee Members Present: Mayor Susan Baldwin, Vice Mayor Fulton, Comm. Walters, and Comm. Gray Committee Members Absent: None Staff Present: Ken Tsuchiyama and Susan Bedsole Call to Order: Mayor Baldwin called the meeting to order at 12:02 p.m. Public Comment: None Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Comm. Walters, supported by Vice Mayor Fulton, to approve the meeting minutes of September 23, 2011, October 4, 2011, and October 19, 2011, as presented. All yes. Motion carried. Discussion Mayor Baldwin provided a summary of the previous meetings held last Fall. City Manager Ken Tsuchiyama provided the committee with a list a community partners with whom he has worked most closely with over the past several years. Mr. Tsuchiyama further stated he felt this group is best suited to respond to the evaluation survey within the community. Mayor Baldwin stated she felt the list presented a very good cross section of the community. Comm. Gray asked if minority and senior groups were represented on the list. Mr. Tsuchiyama responded he did not have much interaction with those groups but identified specific persons on his list that represented those groups. Comm. Walters asked about members of the health care profession. Mr. Tsuchiyama provided a few names that could be added to the list. The questions and format that would be included in the community partner and City Commission surveys were discussed. 1 Mr. Tsuchiyama suggested the respondents be given two weeks to complete the survey, but there could always be a resolution extending the contract. Comm. Walters indicated he would prefer to complete the process prior to the expiration of the contract. Mayor Baldwin asked if a reminder would be sent out. Susan Bedsole responded affirmatively. Mayor Baldwin stated the committee should remind the full Commission of why a second survey is being sent out and the process. Comm. Gray asked if the committee could receive the results as soon as all surveys were completed. Ms. Bedsole indicated they would be sent when all nine commission results were received. Mayor Baldwin asked the City Manager to resend his current contract out to the committee. Comm. Gray asked that future meetings for the committee be set this year for future years.
