City Manager Performance Evaluation Committee 10 N. Division St., Room 112, First Floor Battle Creek, MI 49014 Monday, July 8, 2013 12:00 p.m. Committee Members Present: Mayor Susan Baldwin, Vice Mayor Fulton, Comm. Walters, and Comm. Gray Committee Members Absent: None Staff Present: Ken Tsuchiyama and Susan Bedsole Call to Order: Mayor Baldwin called the meeting to order at 12:03 p.m. Public Comment: None Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Comm. Gray, supported by Comm. Walters, to approve the meeting minutes of June 18, 2013, as presented. All yes. Motion carried. Discussion Mayor Baldwin indicated the committee would be reviewing the results of the surveys. She noted there were a fair number of responses from staff. City Manager Ken Tsuchiyama indicated he would provide a summary of the scores, similar to what was provided for the last evaluation. Mayor Baldwin asked how many community partners received the survey. Mr. Tsuchiyama stated a little over fifty people. Mayor Baldwin noted the response rate was very good. Mayor Baldwin suggested that the committee meet again after they have had time to more thoroughly read the results. She did remind the committee any salary increases would not be retroactive. Comm. Gray agreed another meeting would allow time to review the results. Mr. Tsuchiyama also agreed it was best to do it correctly. Mayor Baldwin stated the City Manager's contract was already in place and the evaluation was the only portion the Committee would be addressing. Comm. Walters asked if the City Manager had made any suggestions regarding an increase. Mayor Baldwin indicated the contract speaks specifically to the terms. Mr. Tsuchiyama stated he was not asking for anything additional. 1 Vice Mayor Fulton requested a copy of the City Manager’s current contract. Mr. Tsuchiyama responded he would send it out to the Committee. The Committee decided the next meeting would be held August 2, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 112 of City Hall. Comm. Gray confirmed the City Manager would send out the current contract and summary of scores. Mr. Tsuchiyama answered affirmatively. Mayor Baldwin asked the committee to send any questions they may have to Mr. Tsuchiyama as soon as possible. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 12:26 p.m. SEB 2
