Official Proceedings of the Battle Creek Civil Service Commission City Hall 10 N. Division Street Commission Chambers Battle Creek, Michigan October 22, 2018 4:00 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT: Commissioners Al Giguere, Tim Martinovich and Michael Roller MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Victoria Houser and Nancy Mullett CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Giguere called the meeting to order at 4:01 PM and recognized that a quorum was present. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS: There were no petitions or communications. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Comm. Martinovich, supported by Comm. Roller, made a motion to approve the Civil Service Commission meeting minutes of July 23, 2018. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. REPORTS Clerk Houser presented the “2018 Training Officer Eligibility List.” UNFINISHED BUSINESS There was none. NEW BUSINESS 1. Certify the “2018 Training Officer Eligibility List” Comm. Giguere, supported by Comm. Roller, made a motion to certify the “2018 Training Officer Eligibility List”. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. 2. Certify the candidates on the “2018 Training Officer Eligibility List” Comm. Giguere, supported by Comm. Martinovich, made a motion to certify the candidates on the “2018 Training Officer Eligibility List”. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. 3. Entry Level Fire Fighter Testing Process a. Elimination of Integrity Inventory Testing Chief Sturdivant informed the Commission that he has reviewed the written and Integrity Inventory tests, stating the Integrity Inventory test was redundant. Chief Sturdivant noted candidates that are offered a position with the City are subject to a complete physical and psychological exam as a contingency of the job offer. b. $20 Testing Fee to remain to cover study guide expenses Chief Sturdivant recommended retaining the $20 testing fee, to cover the costs of study guides, stating this will increase a candidate’s chance of successfully completing the written test. Comm. Giguere, supported by Comm. Roller, made a motion to retain the $20 testing, and designate the fee to cover study guide costs, and eliminating the Integrity Inventory testing. All in favor, none opposes. Motion approved. PUBLIC COMMENT: There were no public comments. COMMISSION COMMENT: There were no commission comments. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Giguere adjourned the meeting at 4:07 PM. 1
