POST/FRANKLIN NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL Doris Hale Facility 100 Green Street Thursday, November 3, 2022 @ 7:00 PM James Moreno called the meeting to order at 7:05pm. Doris Hale Facility. Attendance: John Cash, Cindy Fritz, Pam Geleff, Andre Hoaglin-Jackson, Ryan Hoaglin-Jackson, James Moreno, Kjersten Sullivan, Yvonne Powell, Pat Shellenberger, Tommy Engle, Code, Bill Beaty, Fire Chief Members Excused: Faye Washington, LaMarr Mingle Guests and Visitors: NA Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: None Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Pat Shellenberger and Pam Gelaff noted their names were spelled incorrectly on the October 13 meeting minutes and Attendance Sheet. Move to approve both the September 1 and October 13 minutes as corrected was moved by Cindy and seconded by Yvonne. Motion carried Correspondence and Announcements: Reminder to vote in Tuesday’s election. Commissioner Gray has a monthly “Keeping You Informed” email list. If you would like to be added to the list, share your email with James and he will get you included. John reminded all of the Veteran’s Memorial program at Ft. Custard National Cemetery, October 11, 2022 at 11am. Committee and Staff Reports: Police: A new officer was present to report on the most recent crime statistics. He noted that calls are up, and crimes are up. As Covid starts to wane, people are out on the street more again. There was a discussion on the increase in un-plated cars and cars parking the wrong way on streets. John mentioned the increase in insurance costs for a ticket for an un-plated vehicle. Code: Tommy distributed his report. He also circulated a sheet to share concerns. Trash cans can be out after noon the day before trash day and must be removed by 9 am the day following trash day. Since the switch from Waste Management to Republic, it is trickier to tell what trash day is in various neighborhoods. Tommy reported the follow up on Yvonne’s concerns about cats in a house on Lathrop from the previous meeting, it is working its way through the courts. Fire: The new fire chief came to introduce himself. We shared that we strong supporters of Station #3. Beautiful Battle Creek: Following a discussion on the really nice renovation job completed over the summer at 208 Cliff, John nominated 208 Cliff Street for Beautiful Battle Creek. Cindy seconded. Motion approved. All were reminded to look for nominations for this award. Criteria, house, business or an organization in our neighborhood can be nominated. There is a 3 year waiting period before they can be re-nominated. You need to only provide the address; city will take of the rest. Membership: Kjersten Sullivan, Pat Shellenberger, Pam Gelaff, and Faye Washington will be submitted to the City for Commission approval prior to the expiration of their terms at the end of December. Motion made by Cindy to approve and second by Yvonne; motion passed. Commissioner Comments: None Battle Creek Public Schools: None Old Business: Election of Officers: James Moreno was elected chair, Andre Hoaglin- Jackson was elected Vice Chair, Kjersten Sullivan was elected secretary. New officer terms begin in the January meeting. James will continue to unofficially chair meetings until new terms begin. New Business: Meetings will remain on the first Thursday of the month through December 2023. While the City meeting notice still has us listed as meeting at the Community Action Agency, due to the continued spread of Covid and the need for social distancing, meetings will remain at Doris Hale until further notice. Remember to knock on the window to let someone know you are here, and then go to the front door. The side door does not open. We will continue to not meet in July and to have a picnic in August; regular meetings will resume in September. There was discussion of moving the picnic to Trinity Lutheran Church, and our meetings possibly; further discussion to occur. December will be a brain storming meeting to discuss what we want to pursue in 2023. Member Comments: Post Community Garden is back running after the pandemic. Public Comments: Jim Haadsma reminded us to vote on November 8.
