WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes October 28, 2013 The meeting was held at First Assembly of God Church, 800 S. 24th Street, Battle Creek Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:00pm Cecil Salinas led the invocation and shared his beautiful Battle Creek award with the members Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Diana Cole, Tom Frame, Mike Troutman, Pete Francisco, Kevin Kline, Cecil Salinas Commissioner Jeff Domenico and Commissioner Mary Lou Ramon Guests: MaryJane Cipcic, Deborah Owens, Kaytee Faris, Ryan Lothschultz, Mike Sherzer, Gary Myrick, Robin Lester City staff: Marcie Gillette and Officer Shawn O’Bryant Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: Jeff Koteles announced a community development meeting on November 19 ,7pm city commission chambers Minutes: Mary Lou Ramon motioned to approve August 2013 minutes with support from Jeff Domenico. The minutes were approved 8‐0. Police Report: Officer O’Bryant passed out crime reports for our area. Marcie commented that this months crime sheet was not an accurate accounting of actual calls. Officer O’Bryant also discussed the speed limits being raised on Columbia Avenue after being asked by Jeff Domenico. MaryJane Cipcic said that the Lakeview School Board would be sending a letter to the city asking that the speed near the school be lowered back to the original speed Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: • Jeff Domenico reminded everyone to vote Committee Reports:. b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award-. MaryLou Ramon submitted: 91 S. 31st Street, 135 N 32nd Street d. Woodland Park‐ Mike Troutman said the trails in the park have had names chosen –named after features in the park , also to include the Pontoni name, and would be submitted to the city. City Staff Report: Marcie handed out reports. Greg Rickmar scheduled for January meeting to discuss Ferndale Ct problems, planning looking at the request to block waweenork. Marcie followed up on earlier question on a manhole in the Westlake area. A question was raised about the condition of a building on the corner of 29th and Columbia Program: All ward of 1,4,5 candidates were invited to participate in this opportunity to share. Deborah Owens, Mary lou Ramon ,Mike Sherzer, Ryan Lothschultz, and Jeff Domenico all shared their views. All candidates stayed after the meeting to answer individuals questions. Comments for the Good of the Order: Public Comments: Gary Myrick invited the public to the Westlake and Prairieview community gardens, Robin Lester said same problems continue with neighbors since 2008 . Member Comments: Pete Francisco asked for an update on the Westlake storm water project, and Jeff Domenico said he would check for an update from the city. Kevin Kline stated that keystone project was being finalized with a possible start in april.
