WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes September 22 , 2014 The meeting was held at First Assembly of God Church , 800 s 24th Street, Battle Creek Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:05pm Invocation: A moment of silence was observed. Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Secretary: Linda Patenaude, Julie Davis, Karol Henegar, Mike Troutman, Tom Rose, Joyce Garrett, Gary Dodd, Diana Cole, Darlene Norman Commissioner Jeff Domenico Guests: Andy Hemboldt, Jim Haadsma City staff: Marcie Gillette, Officers; Mark Tillman and Sergeant Wood Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: Jeff followed up on the NPC chairmans meeting with the stakeholders of Battle Creek put on by the Kellogg Foundation. There was talk about values and challenges in Battle Creek and a detailed report will be forthcoming. The next meeting is Oct 25th. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none Minutes: Linda apologized for the “next meeting” error on the last page of the August minutes. Minutes were unanimously approved after a motion by Dave Weaver and seconded by Joyce Garrett with the “next meeting date”correction from Oct 27 to Sept 22, 2014. Linda explained that the notes from the May meeting were not approved and asked for a motion to approve them. Dave Weaver made the motion with support from Jeff Domenico. They were unanimously approved. Police Report: Officer Tillman will continue to be our assigned officer. We should be diligent about locking our cars. He handed out code reports. Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: Commissioner Jeff Domenico said the new city manager is going through a warm-up period for her first few days. The commissioners are working on a new assessment tool for evaluation of her progress and priorities. Questions were raised about her also working as a professor at Western. Jeff said she is finishing up her semester. Committee Reports:. a. Membership: Tom Frame called and has resigned. He is selling his home and is moving. b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award-. None this month c. Neighborhood Planning: none affecting our neighborhood d. Woodland Park: Joyce is working with a contractor for trail sign installation. Spooky Science Saturday will be upcoming at the Leila Arboretum. City Staff Report: Marcie Gillette handed out code reports. No major items in our area. Much of the report was follow-ups on property surveys. Old Business: To boost our membership, Linda is looking to get a report of registered voters and target specific neighborhoods that lack representation on our NPC. We checked with NIBC and we can get some yard signs, paper and postage for mailings for a membership drive from them. Linda will follow up. New Business: none Special Presentation: Andy Hemboldt was the only candidate who attended. He shared his views and answered questions. Comments for the Good of the Order: Jim Haadsma stopped in to share some info about the county budget and the Directors resignation.
