WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes September 25, 2017 The meeting was held at Lakeview Senior Living Facility, 14661 S Helmer, Battle Creek, Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm Invocation: A moment of silence was observed Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Diana Cole, Tom Rose, Karol Henegar, Mike Troutman, Donna Jaeger, Mary Lou Ramon Guests: John Griffin, Ollie Griffin, Blake Prewitt (Lakeview Superintendent), Shane Farlin Sr., Kristin Blood, Jeff Domenico, Autumn Smith City staff: Eric Morris, BC Officer Chad Perry, Police Chief Blocker, Commissioner Kaytee Faris, Mayor Dave Walters Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: none Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none Minutes: Dave Weaver motioned to approve the august minutes with support from Tom Rose. Passed 8-0 Police Report: Officer Chad Perry stated that there had been several home invasions; people should also be careful what they put out for the garbage that is visible to all. Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: Commissioner Kaytee Faris reported: the city had acquired small amount of land around the old state police post, ward 4 commissioner Sherzer has resigned and John Godfrey has been appointed to fill the remainder of the term. Commissioners gave city manager a good review and bonus. The city has signed a economic development contract with a Detroit company GWJ LLC . Mayor Walters reported: the city had promoted 2 firefighters and hired 3 new firefighters. BCU has several new possible companies for the Fort Custer area. City has completed a speed study in the Gethings/s 24th street area – working on a solution. City is still working with South Korea and China on bringing students here. Jeff Dominico made several accusations against the city with chief Blocker stating they were incorrect. Committee Reports:. a. Membership: Still looking for new members  b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award- none c. Lakeview School District: Lakeview Supt. Blake Prewitt reported that this year’s construction projects are behind schedule and should be done in December. Project is over budget but working to get back on budget. d. Woodland Park- Mike Troutman said he and Joyce Garrett had been working on getting new signs installed City Staff Report: Eric Morris reported the city was working on a problem house at 17 Sylvan Ct. also handed out a pamphlet on the small business economic development fund New Business: none Special presentation: ward 1 commissioner candidates John Griffin, Mary Lou Ramon, Kristin Blood and ward 5 candidates Shane Farlin Sr. and Dave Walters were all present to introduce themselves to the NPC.
