WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes November 29, 2017 The meeting was held at Lakeview Senior Living Facility, 14661 S Helmer, Battle Creek, Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm Invocation: A moment of silence was observed Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Secretary: Linda Patenaude, Diana Cole, Tom Rose, Donna Kowolski, , Donna Jaeger, Gary Dodd, MaryJane Cipcic Guests: Commissioner John Griffin, Commissioner Sherri Sophia, Julie Davis, Marty Brewner City staff: Jason Francisco-code compliance, BC Officer Chad Perry, Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: December Zoning board meeting cancelled. Next will be in January. Facility doors were locked early and our members and guests had to be buzzed in. Linda will talk to Zack about this. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: Linda asked to move Code report up in the agenda after police report Minutes: Dave Weaver motioned to approve the august minutes with support from Tom Rose. Passed unanimously Police Report: Officer Chad Perry passed out written reports and answered questions. Popular programs; Shop with a Cop and Fill a Swat Truck are coming up in December. City Staff Report: Jason shared written reports and answered questions. He also shared a power point presentation about what code has accomplished in 2017. They had many successful programs including the Paint Program where 94 vouchers were handed out. They edged several sidewalks that were very overgrown. They made changes to the vacant/abandoned properties that resulted in more usable housing. The sealed bags for mattresses was another popular program. Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: Council congratulated John Griffin as our new Ward 1 commissioner. Sherri Sofia also attended as our at large commissioner and was congratulated on her win. They shared that they elected Mark Behnke as mayor and Dave Walters is vice-mayor. Both commissions answered questions. There was a lot of discussion about medical marijuana in Battle Creek. The way to elect mayor was also discussed. Committee Reports:. a. Membership: Still looking for new members b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award - Was 1008 W Highland Blvd nominated? If not we want to nominate it. c. Lakeview School District: MaryJane Cipcic shared that the school renovations are coming along. They are trying to make changes in having features be more energy efficient. d. Woodland Park - The silo is sturdy and does not present an immediate danger. Facebook site is being worked on with lots of photos.
