Meeting at

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; Sara Schmanske; David
Moore; Mary Lou Ramon; Mason Mayo; Darlene Mayo; Officer Adam Pembrook; Carl
Brockman; Dennis McKinley; Rebecca Runyon; Joe Britvec; Roy LaFountain; Teresa
LaFountain; Matt Saxton; Deborah Owens
Previous Minutes: The minutes from June meeting were tabled until the August meeting.
They were not forwarded by the city for voice approval.
Police Report: Officer Adam Pembrook fielded questions.
Guest Speaker #1: Roy LaFountain from WBCK spoke on his morning show that has been on
the air since the retirement of Dave Eddy in 2008. He has been in broadcasting since 1974.
WBCK had 18 staff members in 1979 and is now employs 12 part time staff.
Guest Speaker #2: Captain Matt Saxton spoke to the group in reference to his running for
Calhoun County Sherriff due to the retirement of the Sherriff Byam. Captain Saxton has been
with the Sherriff’s office since 1994. He has worked within many divisions of the department.
He is a graduate of Homer High School and Lake Superior State University.
Commissioner’s Report: Discussion of resolution endorsing new 911 surcharge at the next
commission meeting July 10, 2012; Leila Palooza is July 28, 2012; Moratorium on medical
marijuana expired June 5, 2012.
School Report: N/A
Code Report: Dennis McKinley distributed a written report and noted that a citation was
issued for fallen bricks at 1403 West Michigan.
Membership: Carl Brockman - Excused absence Deborah Gregory, Josh Fensay, Fred
Bachman
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to 16 Allison as reported by Dale Stratton.
Old Business: It was moved and supported to remove from membership listings
non-attending member Walt McIlroy
New Business: Bob Wolfe Financial Advisor – guest speaker for August.
Nominating Committee: Nate Zanotti – No nominations at this time
Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 8:25 PM
