Council Minutes – January 14, 2013
Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
65 North Bedford Road
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; David Moore; Fred
Bachman; Sara Schmanske; Mary Lou Ramon; Dennis McKinley; Rebecca Runyon; Joshua
Fausey; Deborah L. Gregory; Mason Mayo; Jeff Domenico; David Walters; Myrtle Evans;
Tony Rice; Nancy Karre
A moment of silence was observed
Previous Minutes: December 2012 minutes were approved by voice vote.
Correspondence: Battle Creek Area Transportation Study was distributed
Police Report: None
Guest Speaker: Tony Rice & Nancy Karre from the Battle Creek Area Math & Science
Center spoke of the history and the current programs at the Center since 1991. They reviewed
the initial start up as well as the expansion of the Outreach program into other states and
countries.
Commissioner’s Report: Commissioners Present were Dave Walters, Jeff Domenico and
MaryLou Ramon. They discussed upcoming meetings on the city budget, protocol for
commission meetings as well as procedures on notifying officials on vagrancy.
School Report: Deborah Gregory discussed the Completion of the Franklin project as well as
the progress on the Math & Science Center construction. It was also discussed the possibility of
a NPC tour of the Center in the spring.
Code Report: Written – Dennis McKinley discussed dangerous buildings procedure and
notified the group that Eric Morris, the new code officer for Urbandale area, will be attending
the February 2013 meeting.
Membership: Carl Brockman, Stan & Barbara Beckwith and Darlene Mayo had excused
absences.
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to Ritzee at 1463 West Michigan as reported
by Dale Stratton due to their recent parking lot upgrade.
Old Business: N/A
New Business: Speaker scheduled for February is Tim Keesee of Hastings Mutual Insurance
as presented by Fred Bachman.

Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 7:55 PM
