Council Minutes – February 11, 2013
Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
65 North Bedford Road
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; David Moore; Fred
Bachman; Sara Schmanske; Mary Lou Ramon; Dennis McKinley; Rebecca Runyon; Joshua
Fausey; Officer Derek Walters; Carl Brockman; Floyd Carmichael; Deborah Owens; Cliff
Cheyne; Cindy Cheyne
Previous Minutes: January 2013 minutes were approved by voice vote.
Correspondence: Battle Creek Area Transportation Study - “The Signal”
Police Report: Officer D. Walters stated that weather has brought down breaking & entering
occurrences. Traffic / deer accidents are up when roads are slick. Police deployment is
changing March 3. The crime mapping report was also distributed.
Guest Speaker: Floyd Carmichael – works with Fort Custer National Cemetery. Fort Custer
has been a military cemetery since 1942. It spans 250 acres of which 230 are usable for grave
sites. All current employees are veterans.
Commissioner’s Report: Discussions were had regarding an upcoming meeting in the next
60 days to discuss police issues. Late March early April will begin the budget process for next
year’s budget.
School Report: None
Code Report: Dennis McKinley distributed a written code report and fielded questions
Membership: Deborah Gregory, Stan & Barbara Beckwith had excused absences.
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to 30 North Bedford Road as reported by
Dale Stratton.
Old Business: N/A
New Business: Speaker scheduled for March 11, 2013 is Jim Haadsma County Commissioner

Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 7:59 PM
