Council Minutes – July 8, 2013
Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
65 North Bedford Road
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:12 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; David Moore; Rebecca Runyon; Stan Beckwith;
Dale Stratton; Mary Lou Ramon; Deborah L. Gregory; Joe Britvec; Dennis McKinley;
Officer Shawn O’Bryant; Officer Todd Elliott
Previous Minutes: June 2013 minutes were approved by voice vote.
Correspondence: Neighborhoods Inc. Block party funding is available for Project 20/20.

Police Report: Officer Shawn O’Bryant reviewed crimes in the Urbandale area and discussed
classifications of such crimes as inquired by the council. Officer Todd Elliot discussed the
current bidding process for Springfield Public Safety. The final decision is to be made on
7/15/2013 to award the bid.
Guest Speaker: None
Commissioner’s Report: May Lou Ramon reviewed current ordinances on the use of
fireworks to be allowable the day before, day of and day after a legal holiday.
School Report: Deborah Gregory discussed the Math & Science Center project as well as the
ending of the fiscal year for the district.
Code Report: Dennis McKinley fielded questions by the group regarding the status of
Urbandale businesses and discussed the demolition of Ashley Dairy.
Membership: Nate Zanotti, Carl Brockman and Sara Schmanske had excused absences.
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: 102 Kellogg Street as reported by Dale Stratton
Old Business: N/A
New Business: The council will be discussing future presentations/speakers at the August 2013
meeting. The speaker for August will be Dr. Brett Myers. Also a discussion will be had to
form a committee to recruit young members within our community to get involved with the
planning council.

Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 8:13 PM
