Minutes of the November 11, 2014 Meeting
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Linda Morris.
Members Present: Kingery Clingenpeel, Laura Clingenpeel, Durward McCleary, Linda Morris, Cindy Snyder,
Robert Snyder, George Wytko, Sally Wytko, Harry Zimmerman
Citizens Present: Scott Bouldrey, Diane Colquhoun, Jeffrey Colquhoun
BCPD Sgt. Mike Wood, Officer Mark Tillman
Approval of the Minutes: The minutes for October 2014 were approved. Motion by L. Clingenpeel/K.
Clingenpeel.
The October, 2014 Rural Southwest Police Report was distributed. Officer Tillman reminded us to contact the
police whenever we observe something out of the ordinary, and he suggested that we avoid driving during peak
hours. We also discussed the issues of deer accidents, leaf burning, and truck routes on Sonoma and Minges
Roads.
Linda told us about the “Blue Light” project and encouraged us to place a blue light on our porch between
Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day to show support to our police officers.
Linda Morris distributed the code violation report for 10/14/14 through 11/10/14.
Jeffrey Colquhoun, Diane Colquhoun, and Scott Bouldrey made a presentation on “The Gleaning”, an urban
farm project for the property located at 4500 S. Minges Road. They discussed present and future plans
including equipment, distribution, traffic, buildings on the property, and ownership. The council voted
unanimously to support this project for the production of food that will be donated to those unable to afford it.
Motion made by Bob Snyder/Laura Clingenpeel. Linda will also write a letter of the council’s support to Scott
for his records.
Old Business: The slate of officers for this NPC was presented and voted upon by members present. By a
unanimous vote the following were elected to office: Linda Morris – President, George Wytko – Vice
President, Sally Wytko – Secretary.
New Business:
Linda discussed the Resident Engagement Taskforce and an email she received regarding a Target Market
Analysis that will explore opportunities for downtown residential development.
She also shared information regarding project based neighborhood grants from the Battle Creek Community
Foundation. We will discuss this further at the January meeting.
The council agreed to continue meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at Southside Bible Church at 6:30
p.m.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by L. Clingenpeel/H. Zimmerman at 7:50 p.m.
