The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally responsible, cost effective
policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built infrastructure and natural resources. The
Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission for their consideration and will be available as a resource
on sustainability policy.
MINUTES
Call to Order – 1:05 pm
Attendance –Sue Anderson, Andy Helmboldt, Commissioner Kate Flores, Commissioner Susan
Baldwin, Kurt Tribett, Kathy Antaya, Elizabeth Paul, Sarah Kelly, Kristin Blood. Guest Chris
Dopp.
Approval of Minutes – November 2018 – Ms. Anderson made a motion to approve the minutes
from the November 2018 meeting, seconded by Commissioner Flores.
Additions or Deletions to Agenda – Sue Anderson requested recycling be added to the agenda.
Special Presentations:
- Chris Dopp, Director of Public Works – Climate Resiliency – Mr. Dopp reported about sustainability
efforts at the Department of Public Works. Mr. Dopp discussed businesses that are trying to
implement sustainable programs. Mr. Dopp spoke about the cost of environmental programs and
how the city weighs each cost with each project. Mr. Dopp then highlighted items the city was doing
to be more green and save energy. Mr. Helmboldt asked questions. Ms. Blood spoke of water
conservation and storm water issues. Ms. Anderson asked questions.
Reports:
- City energy efficiency activities – Kurt Tribett reported on the cost savings from last year at DPW. Mr.
Tribett also went over various projects including composting at DPW. Ms. Blood asked questions.
- Environmental Programs update – Elizabeth Paul updated about recycling. Ms. Paul reminded
everyone that bi-weekly recycling starts in April. Ms. Paul reported on contaminated recycling and that about
25% is contaminated. Sarah Kelly discussed contamination issues.
- Planning updates – none
- City Commission updates - PLAN APPROVED!

New Business:
- 2019 Meeting schedule – Mr. Helmboldt discussed the meeting times and dates for the upcoming
year. The committee discussed keeping it on the fourth Monday except for May which will be the
third Monday and no meeting in December. The committee also discussed keeping the meeting at
1pm. Commissioner Baldwin made a motion to have the meetings on the fourth Monday of each
month at 1pm, seconded by Ms. Blood.
Public Comment - none
Member Comments/Announcements – Sarah Kelly mentioned Recycle-o-rama. Elizabeth Paul reminded
everyone about a tour of the recycling plant.
