The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally
responsible, cost effective policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built
infrastructure and natural resources. The Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission
for their consideration and will be available as a resource on sustainability policy.
MINUTES
Call to Order- 1:00 pm
Members Present – Mike Myszka, Sarah Kelly, Kurt Tribbett, Liz Paul, Andy Helmboldt, Sue
Anderson, Comm. Susan Baldwin
Members Absent – Comm. Kate Flores, Kathy Antaya, Kristin Blood, Mayor Mark Behnke
Approval of Minutes – June 2019 – Mike Myzska made a motion to approve the minutes from the
June 2019 meeting, seconded by Sue Anderson. Approved with all voting yes.
Additions or Deletions to Agenda - none
Reports
- City energy efficiency activities – Kurt Tribbett updated the committee about projects
happening within the city. Mr. Tribbett also spoke about storm run off by the police station.
- Environmental Programs update – Liz Paul updated the committee about events that are
coming up. Sarah Kelley mentioned an upcoming event for tire collection in Albion.
- Planning updates – Eric Feldt noted the Zoning Department is updating their ordinance
and maps. Mr. Feldt updated the committee about upcoming ordinances including recreational
marihuana.
- City Commission updates – Commissioner Susan Baldwin noted recreational marihuana is
being discussed with the Commission.
Sustainability Plan:
- Progress updates – Liz Paul noted updates regarding her department for the
Sustainability Plan. Ms. Paul mentioned talk of a new energy program during a Facility
Manager’s meeting. Ms. Paul also noted she is attending water shed meetings and collaborating
with surrounding areas. Ms. Paul is talking with departments about recycling and zero waste
events. Ms. Paul spoke about the green purchasing policy.
- The committee wants to put staff names with the different sections of the plan to better
understand who to go to for information. The committee also discussed having an
environmental employee of the year and maybe a citizen as well.
- What’s next for the plan? – Andy Helmboldt discussed timelines and the future for the
plan and changes to the plan. The committee discussed the annual update to be presented to
the Commission per the plan. Sue Anderson suggested making sub-committees to better
understand all the different parts of the plan due to the size.

Member Comments/Announcements – Liz Paul mentioned a climate change summit happening in
Grand Rapids. Sue Anderson spoke about climate change. Mike Myszka requested a tour of city
facilities once a year.
