Sustainable BC Committee

The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally
responsible, cost effective policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built
infrastructure and natural resources. The Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission
for their consideration and will be available as a resource on sustainability policy.
The committee is grateful for the land upon which we live, and recognizes the Potawatomi Nation as the
original inhabitants. The committee seeks to partner when possible with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of
the Potawatomi (NHBP) Tribe in stewardship of the land and its natural resources.
MINUTES
Call to Order – 3:35 pm
Attendance –
Members - Kristen Blood, Bob Gilbert, Mayor Mark Behnke (left meeting at 4:30 pm), Sue
Anderson, Mike M, Sarah Kelly, Andy Helmboldt, Commissioner Susan Baldwin, Kathy Antaya
Non-Members – Jacob Schacht and Eric Feldt
Approval of Minutes – August 2019 – Mayor Behnke made a motion to approve the minutes
from the August meeting, seconded by Sue Anderson. All approved.
Renewal of Membership – Kristen Blood made a motion to renewal all current members,
seconded by Mike M. All Approved.
Reports -
- City energy efficiency activities - none
- Environmental Programs update – Sarah Kelly updated the committee on the totals from
the last tire collection event. Sarah Kelly explained what happens with the recycled tires.
- Planning updates - none
- City Commission updates - none
Sustainability Plan -
- Monitoring document – Jacob updated the members on the Sustainability Plan and
monitoring the actions and goals. Jacob previewed an excel spreadsheet.
- Subcommittees – Jacob reviewed the responsibilities of each subcommittee and the staff
member involved. Jacob explained the spreadsheet would be updated and available to City
staff members involved so they may fill it out as needed. Members discussed the spreadsheet.
Field Trips, Trainings, Etc. – Sue Anderson shared her notes from the Draw Down Conference she
attended.

Member Comments/Announcements – Andy Helmboldt mentioned setting the calendar for
2020 at the December meeting.
