The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally responsible, cost effective
policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built infrastructure and natural resources. The
Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission for their consideration and will be available as a resource
on sustainability policy.
The committee is grateful for the land upon which we live and recognizes the Potawatomi Nation as the original
inhabitants. The committee seeks to partner when possible with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP)
Tribe in stewardship of the land and its natural resources.
MINUTES
Call to Order – 3:54pm
Members present – Bob Gilbert, Andy Helmboldt, Kathy Antaya, Mike Myszka, Sarah Kelly, Patty Hoch-Melluish
Non-Members – Sue Anderson and Barry Skutt Jr.
Approval of Minutes – Mike Myszka made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, seconded by Sarah Kelly. All
approved
Reports -
City energy efficiency activities – Patty Hoch-Melluish gave an update for the City of Battle Creek. Patty also reminded of
the River Clean Up and the Kids Water Program.
Environmental Programs update – Sarah Kelly talked about recycling and the Recycle-Rama Event.
Planning updates – Eric Feldt gave an update for the Planning and Zoning Department including the update of the zoning
maps.
City Commission updates- none
Sustainability Plan:
Monthly schedule for reviewing plan chapters: Andy Helmbodt discussed dividing the plan into sections for each meeting.
Patty stated that July would be good for the Water and Waste section. Andy Helmboldt suggested Transportation and
Land Use in October. Andy stated Energy would be June and Government Management in April. Public
Outreach/Education would be updated each month. December would be for the next steps and looking forward.
Field Trips, Trainings, Etc. – None
Other Business - Kathy Antaya made a recommendation to add to the agenda the nomination of a Vice Chair. Bob Gilbert
made a motion to nominate Kathy Antaya as Vice Chair, seconded by Mike Myszka. All approved.
The Committee recommended to add Barry Skutt Jr to the Sustainable BC Committee.

Member Comments/Announcements – Jacob mentioned using bullet points in the email invites.
