City of Battle Creek Sustainable BC Committee City Hall 10 N. Division St. Zoom Electronic Meeting Monday, June 7, 2021, 3:30pm MINUTES Call to Order – 3:30 pm Attendance – Sarah Kelly, Josh Etheridge, Patty Hoch-Melluish, Andy Helmboldt, Bessie Stears, Robert Gilbert, Jill Anderson, Keona Ackley, Commissioner Kristin Blood, Kathy antaya (a little late) and Mayor Mark Behnke via phone. Guests – Mallory Avis, Sophie Paquin and Steve Siemen from the City of Battle Creek Approval of Minutes – Commissioner Kristin Blood made a motion to approve the April 2021 minutes, seconded by Keona Ackley. All approved. Reports - Patty Hoch-Melluish mentioned an intern is working on the Consumers Energy data. Bessie Stears noted some recycling and other events coming up. Commissioner Kristin Blood gave updates on various issues. Sarah Kelly spoke about events being held through Calhoun County. Sustainability Plan: - Conversation about how things are going with Mallory Avis (Transit) and Steve Siemen (Fleet). Mallory Avis updated the committee on the direction Transit is headed in regards to the Sustainable Plan. Steve Siemen spoke about the fuel savings and usage for the City Fleet. Field Trips, Trainings, Etc. - None Other Business - Meeting agendas for remainder of 2021 (August, October, December) Public Comment – Linn Kracht spoke about Earthkeepers. Patty Hoch-Melluish spoke about marketing for recycling. Member Comments/Announcements – Robert Gilbert clarified the next meeting. Next Meeting – August 2, 2021, 3:30-4:30pm location TBD, likely Zoom Adjournment – 4:43pm

City of Battle Creek Sustainable BC Committee City Hall 10 N. Division St. Zoom Electronic Meeting Monday, June 7, 2021, 3:30pm The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally responsible, cost effective policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built infrastructure and natural resources. The Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission for their consideration and will be available as a resource on sustainability policy. The committee is grateful for the land upon which we live, and recognizes the Potawatomi Nation as the original inhabitants. The committee seeks to partner when possible with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) Tribe in stewardship of the land and its natural resources.
