City of Battle Creek Water System Advisory Council DPW Conference Room 204 **ZOOM** April 27, 2023 2:00pm Members Present: Perry Hart, Mark Behnke, Michael Andrews, Chris Lussier, Kurt Tribbett Staff Present: Sarah McGinnis, Melissa Whitcomb (Engineering), Lauren Abbott (GUD), Brook Gieber (GUD), Chelsea Maupin (GUD) Call to order: Perry Hart, 2:00pm Approval of agenda: Mark Behnke motioned to approve the agenda, Chris Lussier seconded. Motion passed. Approval of minutes from 4/26/2022: Mark Behnke motioned to approve the minutes, Chris Lussier seconded. Motion passed 2023 Lead Service Line Replacement update- Melissa Whitcomb: Mrs. Whitcomb provided details on the lead service replacement program. The Water Dept. has completed 76 replacements and Engineering has replaced 72, so far this year. Last year we experienced trouble-getting parts. There are fewer delays this year. The 5% annual goal of 225 is almost complete. We will surpass the minimum standard this year. Introduction to GUD Marketing Team: Perry Hart introduced Lauren Abbott (GUD, Brook Gieber (GUD) and Chelsea Maupin (GUD). “Know Your Tool Kit”: Presentation emailed and attached. CIP Project Eliminating Lead Service Lines: Kurt Tribbett discussed the Cities 20 year Capital Improvement Plan. Kurt Tribbett discussed the Lead replacement areas that will be the focus in the next 5 years. (Attached) Drinking Water State Revolving Funds: Perry Hart stated the completed application and $25 payment has been mailed to the State of MI, we should hear by the end of September. Public Comments: Chris Lussier stated his department experiences more lead poisoning from paint and wants to ensure that while discussing lead education materials that we include paint exposure. Perry Hart stated that the Tool Kit could be used and adjusted to our educational needs. Mayor Behnke stated that he would like lead marketing materials in the community parks, also at the Charitable Union. Adjournment: 3:12PM 1
