Animal Shelter Advisory Board Minutes November 14, 2018 ST ATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF BEDFORD The Animal Shelter Advisory Board of the City of Bedford , Texas met in a regular session at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall 2000 Forest Ridge Drive, on the 61h day of June 2018 with the following members present Brian Meadors Deputy Police Chief (Staff Liaison) Mark Bellinghausen Animal Control Supervisor Dr. Susan Read Chairman Karen Killian Board Member Michelle Watson Board Member. CALL TO ORDER/GENERAL COMMENTS Chairperson Dr. Susan Read called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. 1. Consider approval of the following Animal Shelter Advisory Board Minutes: a) Regular meeting: September 12, 2018 Dr. Read advised the first order of business was to review the minutes from the last meeting, no changes were recommended . Karen Killian made the motion to approve the minutes. Dr. Susan Read seconded the motion and all voted to approve the minutes. 2. Report on shelter statistical data. Dr. Read advised the review of the stats were the next order of business. Karen Killian asked for clarification regarding owner requested euthanasia not being counted against the Live Release Rate. Mark Bellinghausen advised that was correct. Karen Killian then asked if an animal was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and the Veterinarian recommend euthanasia would that euthanize animal be counted against the Live release rate. Mark Bellinghausen advised that animal would still be counted against the Live Release Rate. Karen Killian asked where the 90% live release rate came from . Is it State required or recommended by organizations like the Humane Society or Veterinary Association? Michelle Watson advised it is not a State mandate, however Cities use the Live Release Rate to help set goals. Karen Killian advised the shelter staff did an awesome job with the recent incident and asked what the shelter needed. Do we have all the tools necessary? Mark Bellinghausen advised that VCA Advanced offered their isolation room and started Parvo treatment. The shelter does not have a specific isolation room for parvo, we are also looking into sealing the concrete in the outside dog runs as well as installing an artificial turf play area which could be disinfected. Dr. Susan Read stated it does sound like we need a specific plan for improvements and advised we may need to do some fund raising . Karen Killian advised Animal Control did an amazing job at the Library pumpkin patch and was very proud of their participation of shelter animal in the pumpkin patch parade. Dr. Susan Read was impressed with the 153 kitty adoptions almost double from 2017 to 2018 and sad cj;:;;~~4 that 61 kitties were deceased the meeting and Michell•; : : ~ ~ ~ ; the motion.
