Discussion on the formation of a 501(c)(3) including possible names. Ms. McGlinchey reviewed the suggested names received to date. The group discussed the various suggested names. Ms. McGlinchey stated that Ms. Jensen wanted to move forward very quickly with the name. The group said that they would know when the right name suggestion was made because it would resonate there would be an almost “a-ha” moment. Mr. Jacobsen said that a good name would form a meaningful acronym as well as lend itself to some kind of symbolism. The Commission decided to allow the Arts Talk participants to suggest various names using a survey and continue to search for the right name. 4. Discussion on creating an arts incubator in Bedford. The subcommittee working to study the possibility of creating an arts incubator in Bedford, including Tom Jacobsen, Josh Santillan, and Paul Davis, presented their report. They visited Arts in Richardson (AIR) at their booth during an event at North Park Mall. Mr. Jacobsen distributed a PowerPoint about their findings. He said that they learned quite a bit and one of the items he felt was very important is that the AIR group has been working since 2007 but they still do not have a facility. It is possible to get started without a facility. Mr. Jacobsen explained that through the partnerships that AIR has formed they can have virtual facilities using pubs, hotels and theaters. He said that AIR has a vision and lots of materials and that they were insistent that the board of the arts incubator be large with diverse backgrounds in terms of their roles in the community and business. The group discussed the information that was presented. Ms. Debbie Savage discussed her experience of participating in a North Richland Hills event and offered to speak with their cultural programming person. 5. Discussion and possible action to set the date for Arts Fest 2015. Ms. McQuagge-Walden reported that during a meeting with Mark Chandler with HEB ISD, he indicated that the District needs requests for their participation a year in advance. He explained that they set their calendar for the upcoming year within a couple weeks of the current school year ending. Based upon his explanation, the City would need to provide him with its requests by the end of May. The group reviewed information showing the dates of several City events as well as other important regional activities. The group provided three possible dates for Arts Fest and directed Ms. McQuagge-Walden to work with staff and the School District to select the best date. The three possible dates were: • March 28 • April 11 • May 2 ADJOURNMENT A motion to adjourn was made at 8:15 p.m. by Mr. Santillan, seconded by Mr. Jacobsen. The motion passed unanimously.
