Cultural Commission November 12, 2018 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Bedford Cultural Commission met in regular session on November 12, 2018, with the following members present: Thomas Jacobsen Terry Smith Sergio Santos Josh Santillan Summer Finley Joseph Cartwright Wendy Hartnett- Special Event Manager Amy Sabol- City Council Liaison CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order at 6:34 p.m. by Mr. Jacobsen. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Consider approval of the following Cultural Commission minutes: a. August 13, 2018 b. October 8, 2018 The minutes for August and October were approved Mr. Santillan by vote with no changes. NEW BUSINESS 1. Election of new officers. Chairperson - Thomas Jacobson – appointed by Council Vice Chairperson - Josh Santillan Secretary- Summer Finley 2. Discussion and update on Phase Next/Old Bedford School.  The reconstruction of the Old Bedford School is scheduled to end in February.  Renaming the Old Bedford School and the Boys Ranch remains up for debate; branding meeting to be held in January.  Discussion about how to brand the Boys Ranch park, the art council building, and the possibility of the performing arts theater. 3. Action on meeting in December.  Voted unanimously to hold the meeting on December 10. 4. Wrap up and discussion on War of the World Event. 1 Cultural Commission November 12, 2018  Recounted efforts on the Wars of the World event—it was well-planned and successful. 5. Discussion of 2019 schedule of events.  Search for art vendors for Artsfest continues. 6. Discussion, updates and possible action on upcoming art/cultural programming including War of the Worlds.  Have art in the parks (find ways to make Bedford stand out on its own—without parallel).  Nov. 27th – Military art collaboration in honor of veterans.  Find ways to better promote events (e.g. word of mouth or digital “hyping material”).  Create a personal website or a separate page via existing, popular social media networks.  Promote Bedford by also giving recognition to small businesses that are uniquely its own.  Invite people from organizations or another to take part in meetings to connect more.  Champion places that have higher chances of promoting art. ADJOURNMENT There being no additional business, Mr. Cartwright made a motion for adjournment of the meeting; Mr. Jacobsen seconded the motion.
