LOCATION: CITY HALL, 7100 GARFIELD AVENUE, BELL GARDENS, CA. 90201 The meeting will be held at Bell
Gardens City Hall in the Council Chambers. The public may attend the meeting in person or virtually as
instructed below. You may view the meeting live on the City’s website at

ACCESSIBILITY: If requested, the agenda and backup materials will be made available in appropriate
alternative formats to persons with a disability, as required by Section 202 of the Americans with Disabilities
Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C. Sec. 12132), and the federal rules and regulations adopted in implementation thereof.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: The members of the public may address the Education Commission on any item
listed on the agenda or on matters which are not listed on the agenda but are within the subject matter
jurisdiction of the Education Commission. Public comments are limited to three (3) minutes per person for
each designated public comment period(s). Public comments for non-agenda items will be limited to a total
of 30 minutes. Public comments can be made by any of the following ways: IN-PERSON: Members of the
public can provide in-person comments at the podium in the Council Chamber. Public comments are
limited to three (3) minutes for each designated public comment period(s) per speaker, unless a different
time is announced by the presiding chair. Speakers who wish to address the Education Commission
Members should do so by submitting a "Public Comment Card" card to the staff liaison prior to the
designated public comment period.

members of the Education Commission and will be part of the official public record of this meeting. For

Approve the minutes of the March 14, 2024, Education Commission meeting.
Recommendation:
It is the staff’s recommendation that the Education Commission approve the
minutes of the March 14, 2024, Education meeting.

7. DISCUSSION
7.1 Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Art and Essay Contest
Bell Gardens students K-12 will honor Cesar Chavez and Dolores
Hurta by showcasing their creativity in our annual Art and Essay
contest. Art and Essay entry dates from March 31 through April 30.
7.2 Bell Gardens Scholars Program
The City of Bell Gardens will award four scholarships based on merit,
leadership, academics, and other accomplishments, as proven in the
written essay answers. To be eligible, students must be Bell Gardens
residents in the 12th grade and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or
above. Grant funds will be paid directly to the selected student.
7.3 Bell Gardens Graduation Banner Program
The Graduate Banner Program recognizes and congratulates High
School graduates who live in the City of Bell Gardens. Students will
have the opportunity to apply to participate, and the city will create a
banner with their Graduation Photo and display it along the center
medians of the main corridors in the city.
