Arts Commission Minutes City of Bellingham, Washington Tuesday 6:00 PM October 17, 2023 Council Board Room Video Recorded https://meetings.cob.org Commission members Present: Amy Chaloupka; Kate Clark, Paul George, Eric Shew, and Jody Bento Commission Members Absent: Staff Members Present/ Presenters: Shannon Taysi, PCDD Call to Order The Arts Commission meeting was called to order by the Chair at 6:00 PM. Agenda Items Public Meeting 1. Review and ranking of proposed sculptures Shannon Taysi recapped the goal of the donation from Larry Berghoff is to find a sculpture that was fun/whimsical. There were a total of fifteen artists who submitted for this Request for Proposals. The Commission had sent their ranking to Shannon Taysi prior to the meeting. She has averaged the scores. The top scoring artist was Missy Douglas / Kim Rask. The Commission felt the artwork would meet the goals of the donor. The Commission discussed their preference on neighborhood parks. Their final recommendation on location was Harriet Spanel Park. Shannon Taysi said she will bring to Parks Board and reminded the Commission the Parks Board has final say on location. Amy Chaloupka moved and Jody Bento seconded the recommendation to approve Missy Douglas / Kim Rask’s artwork be accepted into the collection. All in favor, motion carried. Other Business 1.
