Standing Committee Members receive reports and information, ask questions and, when appropriate, vote on a recommended action for consideration by the full Council at the Regular Meeting. The notice of Committee Meetings identified below also serves as notice of Special Meetings of the City Council at the times identified as Council Members who are not members of the committee routinely attend and participate in the Committee Meetings. Presentation Regarding the Public-Private Partnership to Redevelop p. 3 the Former Aloha Motel at 315 N. Samish Way into a Mixed-Use, Mixed-Income Affordable Housing Development Known as Samish Commons Council Member Huthman introduced Darby Cowles, Senior Planner, who explained the public-private partnership to redevelop the former Aloha Motel at 315 Samish Way into a mixed-use, mixed-income affordable housing development known as Samish Commons. Samya Lutz, Housing and Services Program Manager, discussed the City's financial obligations for the project. Planning and Community Development Committee Minutes Page 1 October 12, 2020  Brien Thane, Executive Director of the Bellingham Housing Authority, provided the Samish Commons Vision. The Vision outlines what the development will provide:  a range of affordable rents from 30% Area Median Income to Market Rate  53 apartments for senior citizens age 62 and older  14 apartments for famillies transitioning out of homelessness  25 apartments for families with a member who is living with a disability  an integrated and sustainable design promoting a more walkable neighborhood  and an interior courtyard green space recreational area and open space preserved at all three street corners. Jeff McClure, of RMC Architects outlined the design elements of the project. Council Members asked questions.
