Blaine City Hall City of Blaine 10801 Town Sq Dr NE Blaine, MN 55449 Anoka County, Minnesota Minutes - Final EDA The purpose of the Blaine Economic Development Authority is to increase the City’s commercial/industrial tax base, provide employment opportunities, undertake redevelopment to enhance and maintain neighborhood economic stability, and address special needs, such as senior housing. As authorized under Minnesota State statutes, the Blaine City Council also serves as the Blaine Economic Development Authority. Thursday, June 1, 2017 7:20 PM Council Chambers 1 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:32 p.m. by President Ryan followed by the Roll Call. 2 Roll Call Quorum Present. ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Clark Arneson; Planning and Community Development Director Bryan Schafer; Finance Director Joe Huss; Police Chief/Safety Services Manager Chris Olson; Economic Development Coordinator Erik Thorvig; Public Services Manager Bob Therres; City Engineer Jean Keely; Communications Technician Roark Haver; Senior Engineering Technician Jason Sundeen; and City Clerk Catherine Sorensen. Present: 7 - Commissioner Clark, Commissioner Hovland, Commissioner King, President Ryan, Commissioner Swanson, Commissioner Jeppson, and Commissioner Garvais Excused: 1 - Executive Director Arneson 3 Minutes 3-1 MIN 17-21 MAY 4 EDA MINUTES Moved by Commissioner Hovland, seconded by Commissioner Jeppson, that the Minutes of May 4, 2017, be approved. Motion adopted 6-1 (Commissioner King abstained due to his absence.) 4 New Business 4-1 EDA RES 17-07 APPROVAL OF CONTRACT WITH TPC FOR BUSINESS APPRECIATION DAY Economic Development Coordinator Thorvig stated annually the Blaine EDA City of Blaine Page 1 EDA Minutes - Final June 1, 2017 hosts the City of Blaine Business Appreciation Day golf tournament at the TPC. This year’s event will be held on Monday, October 2nd in the afternoon. Last year we had a full tournament of 144 golfers. The event includes 18 holes of golf, dinner and awards. The contract with the TPC exceeds $20,000; therefore, an approval by the EDA is required. The amount of the contract varies depending on the number of golfers. Based on 144 golfers, the contract amount is $24,168. The EDA charges $105 per golfer to assist in the cost of the event which totals $15,120 of revenue for 144 golfers. Staff estimated the EDA contribution to the event would be in the $9,000 range. Moved by Commissioner Clark, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that Resolution No. 17-07, “Approval of Contract with TPC for Business Appreciation Day,” be approved. Motion adopted unanimously.
