Commissioners present: Hunt, Lunz, Nelson, Peterson Commissioners absent: Erickson and Santana Staff Present: • Kevin Knase, Assistant Port Authority Administrator • Ryan Solberg, Housing Development Specialist • Warsan Artan, Workforce Development Program Coordinator • Marit Rasmusson, Office Support Specialist APPROVAL OF MINUTES M/Peterson, S/Hunt: to approve the minutes of the April 21, 2026 Port Authority Item 1.1 Commission meeting. Approval of Port Authority Motion carried: 5-0. Meeting Minutes ORGANIZATIONAL BUSINESS Ryan Solberg joined the Port Authority on June 1st as a Housing Development Item 2.1 Specialist, replacing Kenny Niemeyer. Ryan will split his time between the Port Introduction of New Employee Authority and HRA. Ryan is originally from Mitchell, South Dakota—best known as the home of the World’s Only Corn Palace. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Augustana University and recently completed his master’s in public policy at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Ryan has spent roughly six years working in community and economic development, most notably with the Sioux Metro Growth Alliance, a regional organization serving rural and suburban communities in the greater Sioux Falls, South Dakota area. More recently, he interned with the Housing Redevelopment Authority and City Manager’s Office in the City of Fridley and served as a graduate assistant with UMN Extension, focusing on challenges facing small, rural meat processors. He is excited to join the City of Bloomington, where greater policy levers and resources will allow him to engage in housing work at a larger and more impactful scale. NEW BUSINESS Warsan Artan provided a brief update on the 2026 Bloom in Bloomington Internship Item 3.1 Program, a youth workforce development program currently in its fourth year of Bloom in Bloomington Intern operation. Two Bloom in Bloomington interns shared their experiences in the Introductions program: Najmo Farah, Bloom in Bloomington Intern, Public Health Department, and Julien Jones, Bloom in Bloomington Intern, Minnesota Masonic Home. Port Authority Approved Minutes June 16, 2026  ADMINISTRATOR UPDATES Keven Knase provided information regarding: Item 4.1 • Hatch Bloomington Administrator Updates o Hatch Bloomington Loves Local – Pitch Perfect Love for Local Shops o Hatch Bloomington is back for 2026 with a fresh twist and a whole lot of local love. Launched as a $100,000 pitch competition to support retail entrepreneurship, Hatch Bloomington has been reimagined this year to support the small businesses that already add to the vitality of Bloomington. Through the Hatch Bloomington Loves Local program, up to five existing Bloomington businesses will receive financial support, with $100,000 in total funding available. • Site and Façade Improvement Program Matching Grant • Small Business Grant Program • A flyer on Summer Events in Bloomington: see attached • A flyer on Why SouthLoop: see attached • Real Estate and Development news.
