Due to a transition in staff members, Minutes of the December 18, 2019 meeting were not recorded. A
vote on the approval of the October 16, 2019 Minutes was added to the next meeting, August 26, 2020.
No other votes were taken at the December 18, 2019 meeting.

October 16, 2019
A meeting of the Blue Springs Economic Development Council was held on Wednesday, October
16, 2019, City Hall, 903 W. Main, Room 210, Blue Springs, Missouri, with Becky Nace, Chair
presiding.

CALL MEETING Chair Becky Nace called the Economic Development Council meeting to order
TO ORDER at 8:00 a.m.
INTRODUCTION
OF MEMBERS
APPROVAL OF Councilmember Meyer moved to approve the minutes of August 21, 2019.
MINUTES Economic Development Council meeting. Motion seconded by
Councilmember Scott and carried with the following votes:

PROJECT AND Mike Mallon, Assistant Director of Community & Economic Development
DEVELOPMENT provided an update on project and activity updates. Councilmembers posed
UPDATE some clarifying questions related to the projects which were addressed by city
staff present.
EDC MEMBER Chairperson Nace brought forth a number of ideas to further engage the EDC
INVOLVEMENT membership. The ideas included:
• Generally asking what initiative the EDC could champion in 2020.
• Participating in business retention visits.
• Promotion of the 2020 Census.
• Participation in Tom Cole’s monthly “On the Move” videos.
• Creating a speaker’s bureau-like program.
OTHER BUSINESS Mike Mallon mentioned that an Annual Report of the EDC will be provided to
the City Council prior to February 1, 2020

Jackie Summers provided Board/Commission Liability Training to the Board
Members present. Those absent will be asked to attend a similar session at
a later date.
VISITORS Laura Bowling, Blue Ridge Bank & Trust and Lorne Meinershagen, Floyd,
Meinershagen and Co. were present.
ADJOURNMENT At 9:16 a.m. there was no further business to come before the Economic
Development Council; Councilmember Hunter moved the meeting be
adjourned. Motion seconded by Councilmember Scott and carried unanimously.
