Meeting Called to order at 6:40pm
1. Minutes approved from March 17th and May 19th meetings.
2. Final selection of the HRC logo was made. Gino discussed the preference of those in attendance at the
May meeting for the square shaped logo, and all those present voted unanimously for that logo.
3. Gino Bueno led a discussion about the community event planned at Vesper Hall for October 4, 2015
from 2-5PM which will feature multi-cultural food, social and commun ity groups and nonprofits, and
entertainment. Chairman Jones agreed to speak with the health department to see what additional
licenses are needed by local restaurants to operate a food tent at the festivat and to see if those costs
could be waived for this purpose if there are any.
4. Gino expressed his gratitude to his subcommittee who are working on the event with him. That
committee includes Blue Springs citizens: Jennifer Case, Wayne Todd, and Brenda Williamson.
5. There was a discussion with regard to how to let people know about the committee and Gino believes
he can get some sponsorships. Gino agreed to contact the Blue Springs Magazine, the Examiner and
explore the use of twitter and face book, as well as use the marquee sign that is often out on 7 highway
to advertise local events.
6. Gino and Lewis agreed to meet again before the next HRC meeting to finalize plans for the festival.
7. Chairman Jones discussed the subcommittees of the board and noted that we need a subcommittee to
help with Public Relations for HRC. He noted that we need to work on an HRC banner and flyers now
that we've settled on the logo for the group. He had identified Kynette Campbell as a potential
journalism professional who could assist with this work. Gino noted that Kim Nakahoda should be
used to assist with PR because she works for the city and understands the politics of what can and
cannot be done.
8. Chairman Jones was also interested in looking into a subcommittee to tackle working on the
population of transient Blue Springians in partnership with the Community Services League.
9. Deputy Chief Muenz passed out copies of the annual Blue Springs Police Department Report to board
members.
10. Josie White, the student representative from Blue Springs South High School indicated that the July
meeting will be her last meeting as she is transitioning to college at the end of the month. Discussion
followed with regard to thanking her for her service, and identifying additional student representatives
for the next year.
11. A discussion about low attendance at the meeting followed. Gino noted that he had not received
email notice of the meeting. The secretary going forward will be asked to work with Sheryl Morgan to
be sure that a reminder email is mailed to HRC Board members prior to each monthly meeting in order
to increase attendance.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm
