Strategic Planning Session-Minutes Saturday, February 23, 2019 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Journagan Family Community Room Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building 1100 SW Smith Street, Blue Springs, MO 64015 Attendance: Marjorie Major – Chairman Gino Bueno - Commissioner Jane Bowerman – Commissioner Shawnna Squire – Commissioner Jonas Hughes – Commissioner Jerry Kaylor – Councilman Jim Snyder – Staff Liaison Jenna Herring – Staff Liaison Dr. Emmanuel Ngmosi – Facilitator No visitors present Opening: Dr. Emmanuel Ngmosi introduced himself to the board. He is an experienced educator, trainer and cultural expert and was prepared to help guide the Human Relations Commission (HRC). Introductions: All commissioners presented a brief background of who they were; including their strengths and identified what their goal(s) were for HRC. History of Blue Springs Human Relations Commission: Dr. Ngmosi provided a presentation highlighting the City’s demographic change, tools for improving community relations, promoting cooperation, preventing discrimination, and educating the public. Role of HRC: A strategic plan questionnaire was used to assist in organizing the commission’s goals and objectives. Commissioners discussed HRC’s future including marketing, social media, educating, and event planning. Review of Ordinance: Revisions to the ordinance purpose were recommended.
