Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting April 3, 2018 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 at the Fieldhouse. Staff: Arley Hoskin Michelle Brown – Absent City Council Liaison: Kent Edmondson - Absent A motion was made by Keith Hannaman and seconded by Brandon Jackley to accept the Consent Agenda; it passed unanimously. Visitors/Correspondence: Dennis introduced Matt Asikainen as the new Fieldhouse Manager. Matt comes from Ferguson Parks and Recreation, where he was the Recreation Director. Arley Hoskin was also introduced as the Marketing Coordinator. Arley held a similar position for the City of Gladstone. Program/Activity Spotlight: Justin presented about the Temporary Art Display “Capricious” displayed through the Public Art Commission (PAC). This is the 11th year that the Public Art Commission has had artists display work around Blue Springs. The art was installed with the help of PAC members and the Parks and Recreation maintenance crew. The artists selected come from various places throughout the country and their work can be seen from March 2018 to March 2019 along Adams Dairy Trail and 40 highway. A dedication ceremony is planned for June 2018. Finances: None Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports. Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: None City Council Liaison Report: None Old Business: Fees and Charges 18-19: The Budget Sub-Committee met in March to review the ranges of the Fees and Charges for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. A motion was made by Dena and seconded by Maureen to approve the Fees and Charges for 2018-2019; it passed unanimously. Sales Tax Update: Rotary Park playground completion has been pushed back due to weather. The expected completion is set for the end of April and a dedication ceremony will be held in May. Adams Point Golf Course is set to do a rebid for the roof project. The bunkers completion is currently behind schedule due to weather. 1 The Ward Park playground replacement is set to begin in May and expected to be completed in late June or early July. Construction began on the tennis courts at Blue Springs Park and Pink Hill Park last week. This will be an 8 to 10-week process and is expected to be completed June/July. Dennis presented the initial concept designs for Burrus Old Mill Park, which will house the new splash pad. He also presented the initial concept designs for Wilbur Young Park, which will incorporate six tennis courts.
