Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting
October 2, 2018
A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, September 4t11,2018 at
the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by George Deibert and seconded by Kathy Richardson to accept the Consent
Agenda. It passed unanimously.
Visitors/Correspondence: None
Program/Activity Spotlight: James Farris presented on om fall Little All Stars Program, including flag
football, soccer and cheerleading. These programs are geared towards 3 - 4-year old's and serve as a
transitional program to our Youth Leagues. Little All Stars participation numbers have been steadily
increasing since the implementation of the program in 2012. Thus far in 2018, 703 kids have
participated. We anticipate this number reaching close to 1,000 participants once basketball season is
completed. Our sponsor, Chick-Fil-A, is a great supporter and the Chick-Fil-A cow often attends
sessions to interact with participants and parents.
Finances: Finances were not available but will be available at the next meeting.
Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports.
Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman's Report: None
City Council Liaison Report: Councilman Fowler explained he heard numerous positive comments
about the Splash Park at this year's Fall Fun Fest. In addition, at the Council Meeting on October 15\
Councilman Fowler applauded parks staff for their hard work during the Old Mill Planning process and
final design.
Old Business: Dennis reviewed the final 2017-20 18 Park Sales Tax project costs. He then discussed the
2018-19 projects and explained the projected costs for the projects will be around $3.8 million. These
projects include Blue Springs Park restroom building, Woods Chapel basketball court, Baumgardner
Baseball field, Vesper Hall improvements, James Walker School Park and Moreland School Road Trails
and Old Mill Park.
New Business: None
Miscellaneous: The next Park Sales Tax Sub-Committee meeting will be held Thursday, October 1gth at
the Fieldhouse.
As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Dena and seconded by
Richard.
